I didn't want this to get buried in the thread below... Disney DOES allow coolers inside the parks. There is no "special needs" requirement. The link for the PARKS FAQ's is http://disneyworld.disney.go.com/wa...DWParksAndMoreFAQGrping#WPFoodAndBeveragesFAQ

It states:
Q. May I bring my own food and beverages in to the Water Parks?

A. Coolers of a size that may be safely carried are permitted. No glass containers or alcoholic beverages allowed. There are no storage areas for coolers.

So, if you want to turn up your nose at people who bring in their sandwiches, roast beef, stew, etc... just remember this - according to Disney, they are NOT breaking a rule!

Thanks....

Key word in here is 'WATER' parks. Not the regular parks.

Not being critical - I always have to carry food with me because i am diabetic. I think some of it gets extreme though!

Thanks for pointing that out. I NEVER go to the water parks, so I didn't even realize that's what it said.

I did a quick search on the disney site, and there was no info that I could find one way or another. We are going from the 22nd - 26th and plan on bringing water and snacks with us. The Disney food gets "old" after a while, and we mostly drink water anyway. No way am I paying $3 a bottle! We are thinking of bringing PB&J too... I actually just had one b/c of the thread below! I hadn't had one in ages!

In any case, we ALWAYS eat at the Liberty Square restaraunt, buy cheesecake at Epcot and Main street in MK, buy confections, etc. So we support Disney a LOT with our purchases.:earsgirl:

Sorry for any consfusion...

I always take at least SOME food in, and thought it was fine because the security checkers see it. I bring water bottles and teeny candy bars, sometimes PB crackers or grahams. Of course we buy food, too but it helps to have snacks so you can limit the millions spent on food...

Though I do find the prices high ($3 for water, etc.) it really burnsme to pay a lot and wait in line. I bring snacks and drinks for budget and time reasons

HI!

When we were at the MC Park in October we specifically asked this questions because my husband in an insuline dependant diabetic. We were told that we were allowed to bring in what we needed/ wanted but were asked that it fit under the stoller, in a backpack or easily carried. I am sure this is not 'official' but after going through security we felt certain that this was a common practice.

I think that 'easily carried' is such a nice way to put it. Can you imagine if 2500 people were hauling rolling coolers around behind them while another 7500 are pushing strollers in front of them???? That would make for very interesting walking thru the parks!!!!! :hyper: :hyper: :hyper: :hyper: :hyper: :hyper:

I always bring snacks into the park, and bottled water. The only problem I have had with people bringing in larger amounts of food was when, after waiting in line to get lunch for my family of 4 , to find that there was no place to sit. And then noticing that a family had taken up 2 tables and were eating their homemade lunches. They didn't even buy drinks.

I'm glad to hear that water and snacks are allowed in the parks. I'd heard a rumor that they weren't, and I about had a heart attack mentally adding up all of those $3 for water... :earseek:

Besides that, I'm hypoglycemic, and I need to have access to a small snack sometimes, when my blood sugar's going crazy.

actually that URL was buried in that other thread (and someone pointed out there it was a Water Park statement) :) That's the problem with big threads, too hard to spot anything.

The general consensus seems to be that no-one has had their food/drink taken off them in the last year or so except when it involves glass containers, and even then, baby supplies seem to be relaxed a little bit (about the glass). No medical conditions/allergies/hungry children/hungry adults/budget constraints/dietary likes/dislikes/needs have had to be proven at the gate.

ive read on this board that they go through your backpacks at the gates? well if you have food in there can they make u take it out? cause my cousin is diabetic and she has to have food with her all the time?

They briefly check your backpack because of "post 9/11 security reasons," not to search for Teddy Grahams. Honestly, there will be no questions asked. Occasionally a guard will say "Oh can I have some of that?" and smile. Your cousin can pack what she needs and not worry.

When we were there in 2001, you could get FREE tap water from any counter service restaurant.

I think you can still do this.

Yes, but have you TASTED the tap water? BLEH!! :crazy2:

That's what BRITA bottles are for! :) (I wouldn't drink Orlando water without one. :) )

My two year old son is a very picky eater and on our recent trip I packed Nutrigrain bars, applesauce, gold fish crackers, and raisins in his diaper bag in case he refused to eat the food at the restaurants. The security folks saw all of it when we went through the check points, and all the restaurant staff saw it when we were in the restaurants - no one ever said a word to us about it.

We also saw several families munching on homemade sandwiches at benches throughout all the parks. We never thought anything about it. Just assumed they were doing whatever they could to save some money. It's better for Disney to get at least their admission money than have them not come at all because the food may be too expensive for them!

we're here now and every day we bring a small collapsible cooler on wheels. We are feeding 6 kids and 3 adults lunch and dinner everyday. We also have one diabetic 2 hypoglycemics and 1 who is highly allergic to anything with nuts even touching his food. We found out the hard way not to take chances. Nobody has even questioned us with the food and drinks. We freeze our water bottles the night before and they act as the ice in the cooler. It is sometimes a pain to lug it around but the kids just take turns. We are saving a lot of $ everyday---but we spend it in the long run on souveniers, games , pictures and lots of other goodies including MVMCP. So the way I see it is we are spending the food money on permanent things and keeping us healthy to do it. LOL
