To bring line distractions or not?

Standing in a line is no fun for a 3 yo....or a 9yo for that matter & I'm torn on whether or not to bring them activities to keep them entertained.

I WANT them to see the details of each ride, there's always something to see or hear as you stand in line.......but I also don't want them to get bored. A bored 3 yo can be a bad thing.

Maybe just bring the stuff out if it's a long line?

Any tips on good things to bring?

Instead of bringing something to do. Play a game like "I Spy" or the Character Game where they have to name character's in ABC order.

We play 20 questions, or look at the map and decide what we are doing next.

Both DD (5) and DS (9) love to play "I'm thinking of a character." One person gives clues to a character making the clues easier as we go. Others guess. It's fun for rides, movies, everything Disney. We even did snacks once.

We search for hidden Mickeys. They both think they have found soooo many.

I think it depends on the kid. My son has always been really good about being in lines. When he was really small (1-3 years) I always had little toys he could play with in his stroller. He's 9 now and does just fine with looking around. He's like me though, just enjoys being there!

My DD seems to do just fine with the stuff to look at and climbing along the bars and stuff in line (I know, bad parenting there), but hey it keeps her occupied. 20 questions and I spy sound like good ideas

I bought some bubbles and took them for 'in case'. We only used them once, and they entertained the other kids in line too.

My son always brings his Nintendo. He doesn't use it alot, but sometimes those lines are long and don't move very fast. Same goes with wait times for shows and parades. It is most valuable in the airport and on the planes. I have also brought bubbles, not only do they entertain your kid, but also the ones around you. My son also enjoys looking at the map and planning which direction to head next.

we just talk - about people we see, we count things we see, we point out things of certain colors or shapes, we talk about rides they liked, or we tell stories

We are the minamalist type, we only bring the essentials - key to the room, wallet, maybe a water bottle and that's it - so hauling around junk just isn't my thing.

When standing in Disney lines you are usually constantly moving, so there isn't much you can "do" except look around, talk about things, climb on the railing, LOL etc. I try to bring a snack if the line is long, but mostly we are just enjoying the atmosphere.

Just don't bring the card-table and chairs to play "Go Fish". They are a real 'bear' to move down the line,and a royal pain to secure under the seats on rides.
