To Book Or Not To Book?

Hi everyone

I was hoping for some advice please

We are taking our first ever cruise on The Dream in May

If we enjoy it we would like to do a longer cruise on the Fantasy in May 2012 and thought we would re-book whilst on board in order to take advantage of any discounts

The problem is that I am getting jumpy about what availability will be like by the time we get to May

I know that's still 12 months out but looking at how the Dream is booking up maybe I should book The Fantasy now

DU have given me a quote I am happy with and tell me that I could still re-book on-board if I can get a better price and then cancel my booking with them.

DU also said that if I re-book with Disney I could nominate DU as my TA and receive any on-board credit they are offering (currently $200)

Am I just complicating things?
Should I just wait?

DU have given me a quote on the exact same room we are sailing in on The Dream so what if I love the location? I wouldn't be able to re-book the same room on board as I would have already held it through DU

You should book now. Then, when you are cruising, you should "re-shop" the reservation. If the price has increased, you are happy because you booked at the cheaper price. If the price has not increased, you book again on board and name the same TA. Then, when you get home, you call your TA and tell her to "reconcile" the reservation. She can call DCL and keep your cabin, but move it to the onboard rebooking reservation number and cancel the original reservation. You can get a refund for the "extra" deposit or just apply it toward the cruise fare.

It seems to me that I have nothing to lose and may as well book now

The only other issue would be if we decide we really don't like cruising (this is our first time) but then I guess we can just cancel and get our deposit back - is that correct
