It absolutely was! I booked directly through the Comfort Inn website and was able to get a special for $168 for the 4 of us-it actually turned out to be exactly $100 more with the fees once we checked in-so total of $268.

We took a cab/van from the port to the Comfort Inn ($4 per person) with another family-they try to get as many people in a van as possible-you just have to tell the cab drivers that you do not want to wait and they'll get you going on your way. It took maybe about 15 minutes to get there once they filled the van. We were dropped off right in front of the Comfort Inn and checked in and out within 5 minutes. The Comfort Inn gives you a card to take over to Atlantis.

We walked across the street to Atlantis and through the building (downstairs and then through part of the aquarium) to get to the pool (about a 10 minute walk). You have to exchange your cards at a towel hut for wristbands and towels (which were included). The longest wait was getting a locker-at least 15 minutes of wasted time there and they only take credit cards (Atlantis does not take cash for anything). I think we rented a medium locker for about $12. Be aware that they will hold a $50 deposit on your credit card for the key.

We spend almost our whole day in the "lazy" river, since my son had casts on both of his arms and figured that he wouldn't be allowed to do the body slides (was told no body slides at TL). Their lazy river beats TL or BB by a mile-it's not so lazy and also takes you up to a couple of different water slides without you ever having to get out of the water. My kids (12 and 14) both loved the water park and said that this was the best part of the cruise.

We didn't eat lunch there-we had a couple of snacks (soda was $4 per can). I think I paid about $30 for 4 sodas, 2 french fries and a pretzel, so it's not cheap. Service is extremely slow-nobody seemed like they were in a rush to wait on you. I did see a Ben & Jerry's but we didn't eat there.

We were able to walk over to the beach for a little while, but the kids wanted to go back to the pool. You can get ski or ride the banana boat but we really didn't have time for that because I wanted to get some shopping in before we left the port.

One thing you need to know-bring sandals or some type of shoes to wear because the ground is HOT! I hate wearing shoes at water parks and even I had to keep jumping off the pavement because I couldn't stand it.

We left at 2pm so that I could shop and walked back into the main lobby (where the aquarium is) and out the front door. They have cabs waiting there to take you back to the port ($4 each again). We took some crazy route through a couple of neighborhoods (not sure why?) but it took longer to get back to port-maybe about 20 minutes.

I wouldn't bother shopping in Nassau unless you are specifically looking for jewelry or rum cakes. There is not much else there. We didn't feel unsafe but you really had to keep an eye on who was around you when you were on the street. The stores close at 5:30 and we were going to stop at the straw market on our way out around 5, but there were too many people kind of just hanging around and you had to walk on a narrow side walk packed with cars so we didn't think it was a good idea. We didn't want to put ourselves in a bad situation and it seemed like there were a lot of people just hanging around on the streets at closing time. There were a lot of side streets that didn't look like they were safe so you really had to stick to the main shopping street.

We did attend the shopping talk by Tiffany and she passed out cards with names on them of people who would give you the best discount and a couple of free items (we picked up free Tanzanite earrings-obviously they were not the greatest and I think my mother got a couple of free gemstones). Basically, most of the jewelry stores will give you at least 50% off the marked price-sometimes up to 70% depending on how hard you push. The shopping talk is mostly about jewelry, since jewelry is the best buy in the Bahamas. She gave out some free items (I won a Del Sol t-shirt-although we went to the store to buy the sunglasses that she talked about and the store was practically empty-no merchandise). She was very nice and we did end up seeing her in one of the jewelry stores. She also gives you a map of the preferred stores-this was very helpful.

Thanks for the info. Seems like such a short day for that amount of money. What would it have been had you just paid at Atlantis? I had to laugh about the part where you said they didn't seem to be in any hurry to serve you. Our first visit to Paradise Island was in 1983 and that was our biggest complaint too. Although by the end of our week's stay, we were so used to it and realized we're just so used to rush, rush at home, we actually started to enjoy the slow, laid-back pace.

It was a lot of money but this was our first cruise and we figured we probably wouldn't go again for a long time. I think I checked the prices and they said that it would be more to buy the tickets directly from Atlantis and the Disney Cruise was $160 each I think. Plus we could come and go as we pleased and didn't have to wait around for the Disney shuttle and tour of Atlantis.

Thanks for the review! It seems like you really enjoyed the Atlantis. I have reservations thru Comfort Suites for Sept 27! I've been wondering if it was worth the money-- I got the room for $197 for 4 of us. Definately cheaper than booking through Disney. My boys LOVE water parks, and I've been really wanting to stay at the Atlantis, so this seems like a good bet for our family!
The countdown is on!!!

Keep checking the Choice Hotels websites (Comfort Inn is part of Choice Hotels). We originally booked at $225 and I was able to book a new reservation about a 3 weeks out for $164 and cancel the more expensive reservation.

Thanks for your review..

We actually stayed at Atlantis Harborside for 3 nights! Awesome facility!:thumbsup2:thumbsup2

VERY EXPENSIVE FOR FOOD THERE!:scared1:

We did 3 nights Atlantis Harborside combined with 4 nights at the time Radisson Cable Beach, now Sheraton! Loved Cable Beach beach much better than Atlantis Beach...When we were at Atlantis Beach, very windy and water was rough! As contrasted, Cable Beach was as calm as a lake, much like west coast of Florida..Longboat Key, Sarasota area....

Why was it $100 more on checkin versus when you confirmed on internet at Comfort Suites? I would be angry as I expect establishments to honor original confirmed price!

When we go on Disney Dream summer 2011, we are skipping Atlantis and
doing a DAY PASS AT SHERATON OR WYNDAM! MUCH LESS EXPENSIVE THAN ATLANTIS! HEARD WYNDAM EVEN INCLUDES BUFFET LUNCH! POOLS ARE GREAT AT SHERATON/WYNDAM! LOVE CABLE BEACH!:cool1:

They have several fees and taxes that they charge such as housekeeping, energy fees, etc. It is stated when you book that there are additional fees and taxes.

I don't understand what you did. Did you book a DAY room at Comfort Inn? Did you actually have a room at the Comfort Inn? We are heading to the Bahamas on the Dream in April and just starting to look into this.

What is included in a day pass?:confused3

You actually book a room for the night. Some people never even see the actual room. If you have a little one who needs a nap, or want a private place to change, that might be the only reason to go to the room. Basically this gives you privilages to use the water park for the day. You are also able to roam the resort. Trasnportation to/from the port is not included, and neither is food for the day. It's worth it to some, but not to others.
Good luck in making your decision. Check out the Comfort Suites website regularly, to see the prices.... I booked mine at one price, and several months later rebooked for $100 savings!

Everything at the Atlantis Resort offered to Atlantis guests is included with one exception. You can't charge merchandise to your room key. The way it works is that you get a card at Comfort Suites and bring it to the Atlantis towel huts and then you get a wristband that allows you to use all water park facilities, beaches, chairs, snorkeling lagoon, movie theater, clubs, The Dig, etc. You book a room and it is up to you if you use it or not. It more than likely won't be ready until later in the day, but as a pp mentioned if you want a nap or change, it is there for you to use. Most find it easier to just check in and check out at the same time so you can skip the step of returning to the hotel to check out at the end of the day. Completely up to you though. AAA offers discounts as well as some others.

Thanks for the post - I didn't even know that was an option, I was going to book through Disney!

Are you allowed to bring your own food and drinks in to the water slides, pools and beach areas, or do you have to buy it there?

Were the cabs safe? Did you feel safe walking to/from Comfort Inn? My kids are 8 and 12, not too small, but I am always very worried about safety when they're around (and not so much when they're not, mother's instinct, I guess).

Thanks,

Jen

Great review! If I'd seen this before our last cruise, I definitely would have booked. When we were in Nassau in February, we did the Passporters Tour and then took a cab to Cable Beach...it was an experience that I do not want to repeat. We found that there just isn't enough time to get acclimated and manage an activity on your own (with your kids) at a port stop. On our next cruise, we will be booking excursions at every port.

I think that you probably could bring your own food if you put it in your beach bag (I don't know if I would try walking in with a big cooler though). Nobody checked our bags or anything when we walked it. There is someone standing by the aquarium part checking to make sure that you have a wristband or a card from the Comfort Inn. There is nobody from Atlantis walking around the waterparks checking on people and it is so big that I'm sure that no one would notice if you brought your own lunch there. I wished that I would have thought ahead to bring some snacks but I never thought about it.

I thought it was very safe near Atlantis. When we checked in at the front desk at the Comfort Inn, they told us to walk all the way through the hotel to get to the back door and we literally walked out their back door and across the street to Atlantis. This is a very nice resort area (nobody hanging around on the streets) so I thought it was very safe.

There are a bunch of taxi people waiting for you to get off the ship so I would guess that they are as safe as possible. I didn't feel unsafe in the cabs-I would imagine that the port authorities and Atlantis would not allow "unknown" taxi companies to pick up there if they were not trust worthy. Our first cab driver was really nice-he chatted with my husband for a while.

My kids are 11 and 13. I didn't let them wander around Atlantis on their own for fear that I would never find them again. I let them go on the cruise but I'm not sure that I would let them wonder Atlantis by themselves though-it's very big and there are a lot of people there.

The only time I didn't feel comfortable was when we started walking to the straw market and turned around. It was later in the day and a lot of men were just hanging around it groups together on the street. It was just my mother and I and I just didn't feel comfortable because it was a quite a way outside the port. From what I hear, it's mostly fake items, like fake designer bags and sunglasses.

Someone asked about what you get with the wristbands-as far as I know-you get access to the Aquarium, water park and beach. They also gave us free towels at the towel hut.

All the fake purses, are one of my favorite parts of the trip! I get at least one fake bag each trip and I get sooooo many compliments on them back home and I didn't have to pay a fortune for them! :cool1:

Quick question about the ATlantis..we are big aquarium fans but my DD6 is not a big water park fan...is there a way to go JUST to the aquarium or do you have to pay the whole room rate thing and you get the whole sha bang?? ThankS:confused3

You can do just the aquarium. DCL offers an excursion for the aquarium or you can head over on your own. I think the major part of the Dig is free but I could be mistaken. There are parts you won't be able to see because they are past the part where they require wristbands but you'll see most of the best parts.
