So far this year, I have had:
.....an acquaintance I had not seen, by choice, in over 3 years drop by because he was "in the neighborhood" when I was home sick from work one day. I made the mistake of not wanting to appear rude, and inviting him in, and then promptly showing him the door when he started talking about the unfairness in getting fired from his job because he refused to meet with customers who are "retards" (and he did, in fact, mean developmentally disabled folks).
....an ex-boyfriend (AKA "The Sociopath") whom I had not seen nor spoken to in almost 5 years, drop by because he was "in the neighborhood" at 9 a.m. on a Sunday morning. Having learned my lesson from drop-by #1, I made him stand on the porch, and politely excused myself when he proceeded to tell me how his ex-wife had burned down their house and moved across the country, in a conspiracy to seperate him from his children. (The same wife, incidentally, who "forced" him to cheat on her, then had the gall to leave him for it......apparently she and I were cut from the same cloth, because I somehow managed to "force" him to cheat on me, too. What a string of bad luck for this fella, huh?).
....2 elderly gentlemen from a church I have not attended in over 6 years, drop by because the were "in the neighborhood" and wanted to offer some fellowship on a hot, humid and stormy Wednesday evening at 8:30pm. Oh, Did I mention hot and humid? Because at the time I was sitting in my underwear and a skimpy tank top in the living room, watching TV and trying to find the right balance of open window that allowed maximum breeze and minimal rain into the house.
I'm not exactly sure what has been making all of these people feel it is appropriate to drop by AFTER YEARS OF NO CONTACT when they are "in the neighborhood". Have I mentioned I live in a remote location, and the odds of just happening to have been "in the neighborhood" are next to nil?
*sigh*
So I just wanted to say, to anyone ELSE out there from my past who has a hankering to just drop by because you happen to be "in the neighborhood".....please call first, so I can at least put some pants on. Thanks.
