Ok DISers, heres the setup:
Me and my GF are going to be driving from Alexander City, AL to Orlando, FL for a much needed vacation, I originally planned out to leave the morning of our check in at like 5-6 and make the 10 hour drive in one day. Well, we talked about leaving a day early and is started looking at the map. I realized if we broke the drive into 2 days, we could do a 8 hour drive to jacksonville then a 3 hour drive to Orlando the next day. Google Maps wants me to take i-95 from Jacksonville, but i noticed A1A, a coastline road.

This would be an amazing drive IMHO since while it might add some time to our drive, we arent in any rush (Its a vacation afterall :cool1: ) AND we would be driving my Jeep Wrangler, meaning the top down the entire way :D.

So here are my questions:
1. How is the drive along A1A (in particular, Jacksonville to Daytona), We would be doing the drive on a tuesday in late june.
2. Is there alot of stop and go or is it realitvly open outside of the cities?
3. Is the view as good as it looks on the Satalite imagery?
4. And finally: Would you reccomend this route (Alex City, AL to Jaksonville, FL to Orlando, FL via A1A) Or is there an equivilant to A1A along the gulf of mexico?

Thanks for any help you can provide!

Shamless Bump! ;)

Actually, ive decided that im going to go the a1a route unless someone has a better suggestion or has any other info for me.

A1A just looks too good to pass up, Top down in my wrangler, Jimmy Buffet on my Ipod, My GF in the passenger seat, its been a dream of mine for a while. Plus i can side track and drive along the beech in daytona :D

I've driven A1A from Daytona to a little north of Flagler Beach - not much of it, but it is quite beautiful along that stretch, ocean views all the way. There are parking areas along there too with beach access. It is only one lane in each direction, but if you're not in a hurry it's a great drive.
