I need to figure out something that I can take on a daily basis in order to get my bowels to work right.....I am struggling with constipation ( I know TMI sorry), but I really need some advice.....HELP me please:worship:

I take a calcium magnesium zinc supplement for my RLS, but it has the side effect of keeping me regular (and i take iron which really can back you up)

Vitamin C in large doses will also get you moving.

Have you seen a doctor about this problem? I would really talk to your doctor before you start taking anything on a regular basis.

Have you tried adding extra fiber like metamucil or benefiber? There are several powder mixtures on the market or take a stool softener every so often but do talk to your doctor if this is a serious on going issue.

Add two tablespoons of milled flaxseed to your diet. Not only will it help you with your current problem, but studies show it works well to improve your cholesterol and triglycerides. It has a nutty flavor and you can add it to things like yogurt or peanut butter. Hope this helps! :goodvibes

I agree. It's supposed to work on all of that. I take one tablespoon. I was warned by a chemist to not take too much. Flaxseed contains trace amounts of cyanide :scared1: and consuming too much could lead to poisoning.

Miralax. It was prescription, but fairly recently it went to over the counter.

My mom swear but a tea she drinks every single night. Super Dieter's Tea and it can be bought at most grocery stores. She drinks it every night before bed and she has noproblems the next day. She tells everyone and anyone about this because she's 73 and this is a problem she's had all her life. Possibly because she was born at home 2 months premature and everything did not develop correctly.

Good luck!

I eat Shreddies every morning and it does the job for me :thumbsup2

One bowl of a WHOLE GRAIN cereal (bran flakes, total, most of the Kashi's, shredded wheat) either as breakfast or as your before bed snack.

Lot's of water will help as well, actual water, not tea, coffee, milk, soda, juice etc (those do give you some liquid but they also have things in them that can negate the benefit of the water they hold).

Excercise will actually help as well. If we're not moving neither are our insides.

Flax seed will also help.

Those probiotic yogurts will do the trick but they do contain a lot of sugar.

Stool Softners can help, the easier it is to 'go' the more likely you will.

Laxitives are really a slippery slope (so to speak) I would never use them repeatedly unless you are under a doctors care.

I love flaxseed! I put it in my yogurt daily. :thumbsup2

Have you tried Activia? Or yogurt with active cultures?

This is a good point -- I think it depends on the individual. It might be wise to start with a tablespoon and see if that's enough. I think you should use the amount that works well for you. A small woman will likely need less than a large man, for example. Anyway, I think flaxseed has a lot of benefits so it's worth giving a try. :)

Acidolpholus...it's a probiotic found with the vitamins and other supplements. It helps with digestion. One family member with IBS and another with colon removed and both are quite happy with the extra help.

Good luck!

We use Miralax for DS. We only do it every other day or so because every day gets him flowing way too much.

I have crohn's disease that tends toward nothing going through, and I was given an Rx for Miralax and now buy it over the counter. It works very well without upsetting my already diseased intestinal/digestive system.
