TKTS line question

Wow! Everytime I look I've got more to write down and try to fit in. I've done and redone my schedule! It's nowhere near finished!

I didn't know you could go to the top of the Statue of Liberty anymore. I know DD would love that--she's asked about it.

For the show, I'll jot down everyone's suggestions and see what TKTS has to offer. Haven't heard anything about the Theatreworks free show. We may just skip it this time, as I'm not sure we would get in. Or, if I have a back-up nearby...

Here are a few of my favorite things that I plan on doing for my birthday trip next week:

John's Pizza on 44th Street. They have a great house dressing for their salads and the pizza is to die for.

Stage Deli(7th Ave) has the best chicken salad.

Carnegie by far has the best cheesecake. It just melts in your mouth.

For a snack we always get the roasted cashews sold on just about every corner.

I am not sure if anyone else recommended this but the kids as well as the adults might like Madame Tussauds Wax Museum. I also think they just opened up a Ripley's Beleive It or Not on Time Square.

I would highly recommend Spelling Bee... it has such an intimate setting and the music is fantastic (although, just a forwarning, there is some adult language and references... a song about an unfortunate ere**ion, but the cast is supposed to play 12-13 year olds so it is expected)

STOMP and BLue Man Group are always fun for all ages!

cheap food does not exist in times square! even ruby tuesdays charges 13 for a burger... olive garden does still have soup, salad, and breadsticks for $5 M-F though

look into museums... most museums are free, although you have to wait in line to get a ticket (donations accepted) the museum of natural history is amazing and if they have seen "night at the museum", they may see some of the same scenes (although it was not filmed there)

GO TO THE WORLD OF DISNEY AND FAO SCHWARTZ! at WoD, they even have characters and pin trading!

Ellis Island is interesting although at 9, it may not have as large of an impact...

I really don't want to throw a wrench in your plans, but...
I live in Staten Island and Historic Richmond Town is not much to see unless you guys are history buffs. The ferry ride is nice (and free!) to see New York Harbor and get a decent (but not that close) view of the Statue of Liberty, but it's really just a commuter ferry and when you land in Staten Island, it's not the nicest area. There's so much to see and do in Manhattan, I just don't want you to be disappointed that you wasted time in Staten Island.

And you were correct - you cannot go to the top of the Statue of Liberty, but you can go inside and up as far as the top of the base. If you want to do this, it is a good idea to purchase the tickets ahead of time since there are only a limited number of tours per day. Ferrys are available from Battery Park (lower Manhattan) and include a stop at Ellis Island. Here is some info:

Don't forget that Junior's Cheescake Restaurant is open near the Marriot. I've eaten there twice and loved it both times.

Wow, I just checked, and yes, Tarzan is closing tomorrow. I had no idea. Oh well. Never got to take DS! :sad1:

If you decide on statute of liberty please know that you have to be in the line to get the first boat over. Other than that will be futile.

I think it is worth the trip

Last few questions, I promise. How long does it take to do--

--Central Park Zoo
--Children's Museum o f Manhattan (a little young for dd, but the ancient Greece exhibit will thrill her)
--Empire State Building

Has anyone been to any of Lincoln's Center's Outdoor festival. Looks fun, but I want to know if there are more activities than just the scheduled performances.

Thinking hard about Richmondtown. My dd just loves touring old homes and villages like that. Is it possible to get a cab right at the SI ferry station? Maybe that would help speed us up a little...

What is there to do at South Street Seaport? All I remember is shopping and eating.

Sony WonderLab-is that a must-do?

NAtural History Museum--is it worth buying all the extras? Is it doable in a day, or would we be begging for burnout.

My DH really wants not to venture too far from Times Square. I would like to explore more, but know that that planning can cause you to see less at WDW because you are traveling so much...

I'm even starting to plug meals in. The spreadsheet chugs along. The Richmondtown decision will be a big one. I have two--one for Richmondtown, one without.

Thanks so much again...and again...and

We just got back and did the TKTS line on 7-12 & 13. We got Beauty and the Beast for 55.00 orchestra seats and the show was amazing. The next day I wanted to get Hairspray but they didn't have great seats so we ended up with Xanadu for 56.50 and that show was really good. My DD who is 6 1/2 seemed to like it even more than BB. I enjoyed it way more than I thought I would. Anyone that was a child of the 80's will love the jokes.

Taking my DD to a broadway show was first on my list and she just loved both shows.

Thanks! Forgot to mention that I have a list of shows that I think DD will like and we plan to check out TKTS on Thursday definitely, maybe Monday if we get through with the 5th Av stuff early enough. Haven't heard anything about the Theaterworks USA show, so we will probably skip that. There's just so much to do!

I know that some of the shows have lotteries-you need to go at around 11am for a matinee and enter the lottery. If you get picked you can purchase good seats at a discount-although now that I'm thinking about it, maybe you can only get 2 tix. Hmm, try to google it and see what you can find. I knwo that Wicked used to do it, I don't know if they still do.

We were there about 2.5 hrs and did both the zoo and children's zoo (both are included in your admission price). Depending on when you are going, the penguin chicks may be on display - they were due to hatch this past week.

Also (not like you needed another thing to do), it is a very short walk (under 5 minutes) to the Central Park Carousel. From there it is another short walk to Whole Foods Market - great for lunch - all kinds of salads/salad bar, hot food bars, sushi, sandwiches:
