TKers: Six threads under and still killin' time....

We just had the best afternoon with a family we had not seen in years. We met them when we were in our first homeschool group probably 10 years ago but probably have not seen them in 7 or 8 years. We have so much in common with them that it is unbelievable! Anyway, I think I have found the perfect daughter in law! She is precious and so sweet! I just know we would love the inlaws too!

Kitty, I have stacks and stacks and stacks of recipes that I have clipped from magazines. I could use a new recipe everyday for the rest of my life and probably still not go through them all! Mine are still an unorganized mess and pretty likely to stay that way a long time.
We went to Branson several years ago. Our favorite show was The Jim Stafford Show. He was hilarious. I would love to go see him again but man is that a long drive. Everything is a long drive from Texas! It takes at least 3 hours just to get out of the state.

DL55, a math whiz among us, huh? Could I maybe hire you to tutor my kids? We all stink at math!

Wendy, glad Duke is adapting so well.
I go through the hot/cold thing all the time. I keep a sweater handy at all times. If I do anything that requires a little bit of energy I am huffing and puffing. The best solution I have found is to not do anything that requires any exertion! :lmao:

Howdy to everyone else!

Good morning and happy Martin Luther King day! I forgot about the holiday, until I thought about going to the bank and it was closed! For those of you interested, History channel is running a great documentary about MLK. Its really amazing to think that it really wasn't that long ago that segregation was just accepted. And its amazing the courage of those that fought for civil rights. Things I just take for granted, or something that is just in the history books.

Marie, when I get new recipes, I try to test them out ASAP. Otherwise, I won't know if its something that I'd like to make again (or even if its to my tastes). Too often, I find I'm saving recipes for desserts and appetizers rather than for real food. This is also hampered by the fact that I still don't understand what my broiler is or how to use it. That knocks out a lot of recipe choices!

Goodness, there are times that I really like my boyfriend. We (really me) were watching the Golden Globes last night. He put up with my running commentary on hair, clothes, and overall cattiness. Didn't complain once...or at least he didn't complain out loud.

Today is completely different from yesterday's weather! Its bright out and we may actually get above 40! That means a lot of wet yuckiness as the ice melts away, but I"m not complaining....that's what boots are for. I just hope it all wont re-ice later tonight when the temps drop again....

Let's have a great day everyone!

Hmm, playing matchmaker, are you? :rotfl2:

I save recipes too, but try to make them fairly soon. Then, if we like it, I copy it onto a recipe card and it goes in the file. If not, I just toss it.

Speaking of recipes, does anyone have any good soup recipes? I am looking for something new to make. But keep in mind it can't have any wheat, dairy or egg in it. (yeah, I know, that cuts out alot of good soups!) I do have a turkey carcass in the freezer from Thanksgiving, and I'm thinking of making a nice turkey rice soup. Beyond that, I have no ideas.

I just sat here and watched DS actually do homework! He has a D in Language Arts, and I really blasted hiim about it the other day. Maybe he actually listened? In any event, he did a good job on the assignment, and it shows that he put effort into it.

Today Duke had tuna and carrots with cottage cheese for breakfast. Doesn't that sound yummy? He inhaled it. Silly dog. I guess anything I feed him tastes better than dog food!

Meatloaf and mashed potatoes are our favorites too. I'll eat any vegetable. :)
DH's plan to golf Mon, Weds, and Fri hasn't worked out yet. This week there is supposed to be storms on Weds and Fri. He's just not supposed to golf so much. ;)

Ok, dumb question here....what's language arts? But congrats to DS for doing a great job!

You know, DL55, with some great planning DH could do some fantastic golfing on the East Coast!

My fave is broccoli. But almost anything else. Not a fan of beets and brussle spouts though.

We're supposed to get some precip this Friday...I'll have to live it up until then!

Happy Monday afternoon...we've got sun...at least a little bit!

Language arts is English/reading.

I think the rule should be if you peek at the thread, you at least need to post a smilie or something! Poor LITC has enough stress without thinking she killed us!

I love meatloaf...at least Mom's. I like it cold too. Look for baby Brussel sprouts in the freezer section. I used to hate them until I tried the baby ones. I don't do beets though.

My recipe collection is greater than my cooking! (I think that was the motto I saw!

The dinner show I saw Friday night had a joke about putting popcorn in the chicken stuffing and blowing his a** off!

OK---Hershey after Branson! Sounds good to me. You tell him he had better follow though on this now. He has our hopes up! You don't want to disappoint these TKers now!

Hope I didn't forget anything...need to go to FB now! I know I'll never get everything there. It's just too complicated.

Is there a reason its not called english anymore? language arts sounds scary to me!

Hmm...I still have to think about the baby brussels. I dislike it that much.

Mmmm...popcorn.

I got a FB message from Shmu. She said :
I have been SOOOOOO swamped with school and work. I miss everyone. Can you tell all the TKers I am fine and miss them? I'll show up again when I can. I am double booked with classes right now and having to do all the tax stuff for our business. Thank God I have a family that helps out. Other wise I'd never make it.

I think LA is supposed to sound better than grammer...I guess it combines them into 1 subject. You are supposed to see a reason for studying it rather than having just diagraming sentences. I think it takes the fun out of reading...you don't always have to learn something from reading a story.

Let others voice their opinion but believe me, I could not stand those hard things. They have an awful aftertaste too. But the baby ones are good.

:thumbsup2 Nicely put you two!!!

As M&N said, it combines English, Grammar, Writing, Spelling and Reading/Literature all under 1 set of state standards. (at least in WI they do) It encompasses everything about communication.

Had a very nice day today. DH was off of work and we spent a nice quiet day alone w/o the kids.

Thanks MLK!!!!

wow, I wish I liked veggies like you guys. It would make losing weight alot easier! I love salad, and I like tomatoes in any form except sundried. I also like green beans. Used to love peas, now not so much. Raw broccoli and cauliflower are also OK, but not cooked. Not much of a cooked veggie person at all, probably becuase my mom cooked them so badly!

Thanks for the update on Shmu--I've been wondering where she got to!

HI LITC Have to admit I did check the thread yesterday but didn't say anything. Now I feel bad that you thought you killed the thread. :guilty:

DL--dont feel bad about that at all. Even if I do get the chance to read here, I rarely can type since I am usually holding Walter!

Ooo, I haven't made meatloaf in ages. I'll have to add that to my menu for next week since I already did this weeks shopping. Tonight we just had left over veggie soup from the freezer and grilled cheese.

Weather was horrible here today too. Lots of rain and felt much colder than it really was.

DL55, you keep working that magic and convince DH that making the trip here is a necessity.

LITC, never worry about killing this thread...Someone will always be around to save it.

Thanks JOCA, it just seemed like such a long time without a post :scared1:

I just cannot get things to go fast tonight. Facebook is even slower than here. :scared1:

OK---I could not type anything and now AOL cut off on me! Must mean I have nothing to say. Should get to bed I guess...NIGHT to myself!

Morning ladies...it is absolutely awful out there. We're just on the cusp of freezing, so its kinda foggy outside with rain/ice coming down. And today is supposed to be the warmest day of the week! I hope it'll warm up enough to stop. It totally affects my mood. I'm just groggy and blah.

I'm still stuck on the language arts thingy...so growing up, did you have separate classes for english vs. grammar vs. literature? We always had that all encompassing english class....maybe it was a Catholic school thing? Do they call it language arts from the beginning? I can just imagine little first graders trying to say "language arts" all the time.

Ok, I'm throwing it down....bring back English class! But regardless, it is a really important class and skills to have....

OK Kitty, I tried to research this thing for you but it has just gotten me more confused! I looked on our district site and it called it communication arts! It then listed reading and writing. I'll have to check with some teachers. I know when I was in elem in the dark ages it was not language arts. But what was it? I know we had spelling and reading and then I went to a special writing class in 6th grade. I really cannot remember what the grade on the report card said though. Hope that helps! NOT! :confused3
