tkd lisa's new years resolution (comments welcome)

Doreen, it's tae kwon do. I'm a 2nd degree black belt, which I earned in July, 2002. Since then, I focused primarily on teaching, instead of taking class. You burn LOTS more calories taking class than teaching, and I put about 10 pounds in 18 months. Then I stopped tae kwon do altogether, because I got a different job that required longer hours and more travel. Combine that with the fact that no one else in the family was still taking tae kwon do, and I felt that I needed to stop dedicating the 3 days a week to something that was just for me. Then another 5 pounds piled on, and that's how I got to the point that I was at New Years.

I do miss taking and teaching tae kwon do, and probably will go back to it, when the kids get older (I took a 7 year break after having my daughter for a lot of reasons, so starting again doesn't scare me).

No question too nosy for me. Love to talk about the things I do. Thanks again for the nice comments. It does keep the interest up knowing other people read the journal too.

Thanks! Lisa

black belt?!?!?! watch out ladies, lisa's gonna kick our butts into shape if we don't stay on plan :p . hehe, in all seriousness though, that's awesome. even though you haven't been doing it for a while, i'm still very impressed. and that is so great that you know you will be able to get back into it when the time comes. good for you!

have a great day! :sunny:

Thanks Marsha: I mostly hang on the cruise board, and usually am in cruise chat on Friday. This subject came up a few weeks ago, and Webmaster Alex gave me a shark avatar! Said he thinks of me as a bit aggressive! I got a big laugh out of it, and enjoy having a different avatar.

Weighed in this morning, to no real loss (.2 pounds). Well, guess I'll just see what next week brings. I may have to look at calories as well as carbs, but that's just such a pain!

Tonight I'm staying w/ DD at church for the AWANAs sleep over. They're having pizza, so I'll have to swing by someplace and bring dinner. Thinking about a big salad. We'll see how it goes.

Lisa~ I really enjoy reading your journal. You're doing very well. BTW, this may seem like a stupid/silly question, but what are wheat nuts? I've never heard of them. I really just wanted to say hello and tell you to enjoy tonight! :hyper:

A sleepover sounds like fun!! I hope you and your DD have a great time! I also hope you found some acceptable stuff to take along for your dinner - you'll need lots of energy to stay up with the kids until all hours of the night! :p I don't know why they call it a sleepover when the kids very rarely actually SLEEP!

Second degree black belt - WOW! That takes a lot of time and determination! If you can tackle that, then this weight loss thing should be easy! My kids are both first degree black belts in tang soo do and I took class with them for about 6 months - great exercise!! We've all gotten out of it, though - really hard to do 3 nights at the tang soo do studio during high school with all the homework and other activities.

Have a great weekend, Lisa!! :sunny:

Thanks Doreen and Denise. I survived the sleepover. Actually all the girls were asleep before midnight, which was quite a surprise! There were 16 girls and 4 adults, which was a nice ratio.

Denise, not a stupid question at all. In fact, I had never heard of them before my diet either. Wheat nuts are a snack that I found in one (and only one) grocery store, near the nuts. They are crunchy and salty, and have 5g of carbs per ounce (and an ounce is a good sized handful. I was big on crunchy type snacks. I used to have pretzel nuggets every evening, so early on in the diet, I was looking for something crunchy to replace it. I just happened to see these, and they fit the bill for me. If you have sodium problems, it's probably not for you though, cause they're very high in salt.

BTW, Denise, I grew up in Indiana, Indianapolis to be specific, and lived there until my base closed in 96. Where are you from?

Completing my journal for yesterday, I stopped by taco bell and got a taco salad (didn't eat the shell) for dinner. That gave me 5 total carbs for the day. I didn't eat any of the snacks, cause the healthy ones were carrots and pretzels! I admit, I did get hungry while the girls were watching their movie about 9, but I just drank some water, and eventually, forgot about it. Those brownies sure looked good though!

Hope everyone has a great weekend. Lisa

Doreen, forgot to add to my last post, that I completely understand the time crunch thing! That's why I stopped. One of the other black belts at our school (who was also a co-worker, Southern MD is like that, definitly small town!) studied Tang Song Do before moving here, and really liked it. Tae Kwon Do was as close as she could find around here, and at that time, our school hadn't been open but a month or so. Thanks so much for your encouragement. It's a real help!

Lisa

Hey Lisa~glad the sleepover went well; I think you were stronger than I would have been when it came to those brownies--great job!

I grew up in northwest IN (near Valparaiso), went to college at Purdue, and now live near Indy and teach in Plainfield. It's such a small world! :)

lisa, you did such a great job with the sleepover! it would have been so easy to just give in and eat those un-friendly snacks, but you held your ground. amazing what some water can do for our bodies :)

have a great rest of the weekend :sunny:

Thanks all. Here's the rest of my weekend.

1/31 journal:
am: 2 eggs, 1 slice toast (1C)
lunch: tuna, sunflower seeds
1/2 C ice cream (1C)
I really questioned the ice cream, but the label said 1/2 c was 18g of carbs. It was vanilla with lots of peanut butter swirled in, so maybe it was better than a heavy fruit based one. Anyway, that sure did taste good.

3 mile WATP tape
pm: Beef & noodles (1C)
brocolli, cauliflower

Total carbs for the day - 3

2/1 journal:
am: 2 eggs, 1 slice toast (1C)
lunch: salad
italian sausage in marinara sauce (1C)

3 mile WATP tape
pm: jr bacon cheeseburger w/ only one bun (1C)
1/2 of jr. sized frosty (1C)

4 carbs for the day.

Now I'm off to update my clippies!

Have a great day everyone.

mmmmm, vanilla with peanut butter ice cream :p . peanut butter is definitely one of my downfalls, i love it! glad you could enjoy that and it fit well into your plan :). you're doing so great with your food and exercise!

hope you have a great day today :sunny:

Today was weigh in day, down 2.5 pounds for a total loss of 7.5. Not spectacular, but on par for my plan of 2 pounds a week.

Journal for 2/4:
am: 2 eggs, 1 slice toast (1C)
snack: yogurt (1C)
lunch: cottage cheese w/ pineapple (1C)
yellow pepper
cauliflower/broccoli (the last of this!)
cashews (1C)

Total carbs, 5

2.5 pounds in a week not spectacular?? i beg to differ :p . i think that is excellent! and 7.5 total. magnificent :). you're doing a great job lisa, keep it up! :sunny:

Journal for 2/5
am: 2 eggs, 1 slice toast (1C)
snack: yogurt (1C)
lunch: cottage cheese w/ pineapple (1C)
cheese
wheat nuts (1C)

pm: Had the potential for disaster. After getting DS's hair cut, the kids wanted to go to an oriental buffet. So we did. I think I made it out of there with 1C, maybe 2. I had lots of servings of a little bit of things, so the list is long.
hot & sour soup
maybe 15 cold shrimp w/ cocktail sauce
beef w/ onions, teriyaki chicken
2 potstickers
1 mini cream puff

I'm going to count 2 carbs total for the dinner. I'm not sure what's in hot & sour, but I'm sure there's something, and probably a few carbs in cocktail sauce. Maybe 5 grams in the 2 pot stickers, and I'm sure that cream puff had 15-20.

2 mile WATP tape w/ weights

6 carbs total
