I have finally lost some weight and yesterday I tried on a black lace dress, by Ralph Lloren in size Large. The dress fit me and I liked it. I finally felt like I wasn't wearing a tent. I looked at the price and it was $380. I walked out and asked the dressing room clerk if that price was right, and she was shocked and got the store manager.

The manager walked over and showed me how it was a Blue Label Ralph Lloren and the dress goes for $680 in a high end store.

I have seen purses and luggage priced high but never clothes or a dress. sadly I put it back. Do people really pay that much for a casual dress, maybe I would for one of my kids wedding, but it would have to be beautiful. This dress was just a fun little black dress.

Was that the price on the tjmaxx price tag or was it the regular tag and they forgot to ruduce the price? If it was on a TJMAXX tag then WOW! If it wasnt then they probably forgot to tag it.

What area are you in?

I know that at our local TJMAXX they would have that dress for a long time. Our TJMAXX does not have the shoppers that are willing to pay that much for a casual dress. I have not spent that much for my daughters prom dresses.

I am from Wisconsin and I was at the Oshkosh store.

It had the TJMaxx price tag which shows how much the dress goes for and then TJMaxx's price.

Oshkosh has a fairly large Outlet Mall and I have seen higher prices because of 3 larger events they have in the summertime, The EAA and Country USA. Maybe they felt big spenders were coming to the area. I know the Columbia Store has higher prices during these summertime events.

I was shocked too with the price. I guess they have to have some items in the store that are from Designers. Most of the time I feel like the cloathes are from clearing racks from the Boston Store. I have found a few shirts, maybe once a year and some really neat cowboy boots, but that is it.

Some TJ Maxx stores have a section called The Runway which includes high-end merchandise from top name designers at reduced prices. So a dress originally marketed at $680 would be sold at our stores for about $380, which is almost 1/2 price.

You could keep an eye on it - if it doesn't sell at $380, the price should drop over time! Good luck!!!

Thanks, good to know. My sister has a friend that knows when the new merchandise comes to the store and my sister says she does All her shopping there. So maybe I am just never see the good stuff.

I have seen some higher priced stuff at our Marshall's like that. I have noticed, like other PP said, that the price will drop more the longer it sits in the store. So you might be able to get it if you go back in a month or so. No guarantees but I know I don't spend that much on dresses and I bet most people who shop at TJs and Marshall's don't either. The funny thing is I would expect those prices more at Nordstrom's Rack not at Tjs but lately the price has been higher at M and T and not at Nordstrom's? I wonder if because of the economy more people are shopping at "discount" type stores over the past few years and less at department stores because I have been getting better deals in the last year or so at departments stores and not at the "discount" stores. It has been interesting.

I have never seen anything priced that high at TJMaxx. We have some designer things mixed in, but not a seperate area.

Congrats on the weight loss!

You know that old saying, even if you got a half-price coupon on a million dollar helicopter, it would still cost half a million dollars? It is a GREAT deal but who the heck has half a million just lying around.

I've never seen something priced that high in a discount store, but it gives me hope that I can catch something like that greatly reduced after everyone else passes it up.

Big price tag ! I once saw a Versace dress at TJ's for $720. I wish it fit but it was runway model size and I couldn't afford it anyways !

Our local Target keeps trying stuff like that- it is SO not selling.... :rotfl: It was Michael Kors, but a step down from the things they would sell in Macy's, etc.

I don't spend that kind of money on clothes or shoes, but I would be inclined to splurge (within MY budget) and spend more on something of quality that made me look good, gave me confidence while wearing and that I'd get my money's worth out of. A cute black dress that I could wear a lot? Why not spend a little more? I spend more money than I'd like to on Dansko shoes, but man, they are worth every penny when I get home from work and my back doesn't hurt.

I'd personally hate to spend that kind of money (or even half that kind of money) on a dress I'd just wear once to a wedding or prom.

I agree with you. When I put the dress on, I was shocked how well it fit and how well it was made. I should of known. I am used to getting dresses at JCP or Macy's, sometimes Kohl's, but the quality of their dresses are horrible.

I have to go back to Oshkosh in a few weeks, I will go in and see if the price dropped. They only had a small, medium, large and xlarge and they were put at the end of the aisle like the end caps at Target. That is why I never imagined it would be that expensive.

I walk right on by.

Congratulations on weight loss. If you have the $$, go for it. It would be a great reward for the success and you always need a perfect black dress!

Otherwise, there are plenty of other options in the normal dress section. And now you'll have lots of fun trying them on!
:cool1::cool1:

I like the home section in the back of TJ Maxx. I always find cool pieces. One time I found these pretty french crystal wine glasses. Came in a neat box with white satin. There were 4 of them and the TJ price was $299. I thought this is a mis-print probably supposed to be 29.99. Took it up to the register, nope that was the right price $299. I put them back.

OP, a nice black dress like this will last for years (as long as it still fits, ;)) and can be worn to many different events. I would have purchased it. If you can wear it for 10 years, that works out to $38 a year. Bargain!

TJ and Marshalls carrys a lot of high end merchandise at a lower price then Nordstrom, Coach, etc. A lot of if it is sold in areas where the demand is greater (I.E. Los Angeles, New York, etc.) but things can be sent to other stores. I have seen items over $1,000 in the stores :confused3Would not personally buy it but believe it or not there is a demand. That dress might not be there in a week. I do hate how expensive items always fit so well.
