Tiw

Is there a link to TIW information?

I think the last time I checked a few of the restaurants we were going to were not on the list.

Also, where can you purchase it?
We are not purchasing our APs until we are there.

Thanks

We like TIW because it offers us flexibility. For example, we can have an appetizer and not a dessert, unlike the DDP.

Can the TIW be used at the F&W?

Is the 18% added when the TIW is used at, say, the value resorts CS locations?

The food booths at F&W do not offer the TiW discount. The gratuity is not added at the CS locations that offer the discount.

We were in WDW 2nd week of August....sometimes I was asked for my AP (and they checked that the name was the same) and sometimes I wasn't asked for my AP. But it was my AP they wanted, not my room key or driver's license. The majority of the time, I was asked for the AP.

I've never been asked to show the AP in the 2 years we've had a TiW card, but I believe they reserve the right to ask you to show it.

Same here. I think I've had the card for 4 or 5 years now, however long it has been available to the annual passholders. I have never once been asked for my AP when using the TIW. You show the AP when you purchase the TIW. After that, I've only ever given my Driver's license as my ID since that has my picture on it.

We haven't had to show and AP- you shouldn't have to as you can get it without an AP as a Florida resident so not veryone who has it would have an AP. I have been asked for a picture id- to prove it is mine at times but that has been it.

I figured it might be hit and miss re:ID depending on the CM. :thanks:

Thanks!!!!! Most of our TS are on the list. :thumbsup2

::yes:: Exactly. We would never order 5 desserts. :faint: When DH and I go out to dinner we like to get a couple apps, an entree to share, some drinks, and maybe a dessert. When in WDW even the kids like to share and try some of everything.

We love TIW as well! We've done DP and DxDP many times, as hubby thought it was best, and then I finally convinced him to switch back to TIW, and haven't looked back!

Kids get adult meals and share, can get appetizers and things like milkshakes as well. We also get 2 trips out of each card, just like with our AP.

It allows us to eat the way we like to eat, not the way Disney makes you eat on the DP.

Incidentally, we've had DDE/TIW for years now, and have never had to show our AP at all either.

Tiger :)

I just looked at the list and I'm kicking myself for not upgrading our tix and getting TIW for this past trip. Our bill at CM was $500 (10 dis adults, 2 kids)! We also ate at Olivias, 50's PT, Portobello, CRT, Biergarten and Tambu Lounge!! We would have saved so much!!!!! I never should have looked at this thread.

DH and I love TIW and are getting it again this September. We love to relax at the Poly with a few drinks in the afternoon and do a sit down meal every day of our trip, usually at least one at a signature. We also like to have wine with our nicer meals, and we always split an appetizer and a dessert. Because of all this the TIW is the best way for us to go. I'll get extra use out of it this year as I'll be going down at least 3 times in the next year.

That would have been a huge savings!

Hollymom, that's what we do too. :thumbsup2

How much of a real benefit is having TIW? Unless I am missing something it gives you a 20% discount, but makes you pay 18% gratuity. It's almost a wash...

I hate when I am forced into paying a gratuity. I'm not a cheapskate, but I like to tip appropriately; at a "buffet" type ts place, I will generally tip 10%. There is no way I would give 18% for someone to clear my dishes (and that's if they actually do it). At a place like le celier, where we have had great service, I'll tip 20+%.

A tip is a gratuity based on service and quality of the restaurant. Bad service/quality, bad tip; good service/quality, good tip.

Just my feeling, but I think the US has turned into a place were a tip has become expected. Wrong..it should be earned!

Anyway...sorry for my ranting and raving.

Back to the topic at hand; so basically the TIW covers your tip. Am I missing anything?

Thanks!

Evan

We would always tip 15-20% anyway so it saves me 20%.

There's a reason tipping threads are banned on the dining boards, not sure about here on the DVC boards.

In many counties, the gratuity is automatically included in your dining bill. There are probably many foreign travelers who don't tip because they are used to the tip being included already.

I've never had bad service at a Disney restaurant so I don't have a problem with the automatic tip. If there was a service issue and I felt that the automatic tip was not appropriate, I would ask for a manager had have it adjusted or removed so I could tip what I felt was appropriate for the level of service.

There is a tipping thread (http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2300858&highlight=tipping), so sorry for getting off topic. But, I do want to say thanks to erionm for what he said above. I feel like an idiot, because I never thought of that. I have not been in many situations where the tip was automatically included, but for future reference, if needed, I will do what erionm does...ask for the manager to adjust it (for more or less!).

So back to the topic (sort of) at hand...TIW gives you 20% off the total bill (including drinks) at specific restaurants and I think it gives you free parking to an extent. Are there other benefits?

Thanks again and lets keep the tipping discussion for the tipping thread.

Evan

I think the 20% trumps the DDP if you dine like we do. :thumbsup2 Not huge dessert eaters, love our apps and cocktails, and kids who don't like the kids' menu and prefer to share adult entrees.
