We have a couple of trips booked right now, and we will be planning another one for end of April of 2018. I thought I heard that AP holders get a 20% discount right now on dining at a bunch of places. We plan to upgrage to APs when we arrive May 6. We drink with our sit down meals when available. Usually we do one drink each for my husband/myself. I am thinking TIW would still be a good value for us even though many of the restaurants we have reservations for may also fall under the AP discount....

Thoughts?

May trip:
Chef Mickey dinner
Whispering Canyon dinner
Via Napoli lunch
Sanaa Dinner (just for bread service and drinks)
Crystal Palace breakfast
Kona breakfast
Trattoria Al Forno dinner
1900 Park Fare dinner
Beaches & Cream dinner
Be Our Guest dinner

October trip--adults only--doing mostly for Food & Wine, will also do California Grill for dinner one night and might add one other less kid friendly place--Citricos, Le Cellier, etc.

Then, we will go again April 24-May 2, 2018 (give or take a couple of days).

Right now AP Discount is supposed to end September 30th, so if it does,
your other trips won't benefit plus it offers no discount on alcohol.

Here are the differences:

Chef Mickey dinner - AP 10%, TiW 20%
Whispering Canyon dinner - AP 20%, TiW 20%
Via Napoli lunch - AP 10%, TiW 20%
Sanaa Dinner (just for bread service and drinks) - AP 20%, TiW 20%
Crystal Palace breakfast - AP 10%, TiW 20%
Kona breakfast - AP 20%, TiW 20%
Trattoria Al Forno dinner - AP 10%, TiW 20%
1900 Park Fare dinner - AP 10%, TiW 20%
Beaches & Cream dinner - AP 10%, TiW 20%
Be Our Guest dinner - AP 10%, TiW 20%

For your future trip, at the pricey spots you mentioned figure out which is better ....
CG and LeCellier are 20% with TiW but only 10% with AP.

Do some math for all trips and assumption AP ends in September to see which is better.

Thank you so much for doing this! We also drink with meals, and TIW discounts alcohol too. Since, we are going in April 2018 as well I am just going to get the TIW card when I upgrade. I know we will get the value out of it from the 3 trips :)

IS the AP discount really going away? Do you know the reasoning behind this?

The AP discount is normally 10% at a few restaurants. The special anniversary deal increased it to 20% at some restaurants and increased the number of restaurants that participate. The discount will drop back to the normal level after September 30th.

Okay, I didn't realize that. Thank you!

After doing a lot of number crunching we bought TIW in March. We will use the card on five trips, 3 family and 2 adult. Family trips will be 10 people, adult trips 4. Our total TIW saving in March (I did not count any saving we would have gotten with the AP) was $33. Our AP savings was $101. TIW makes sense for us, worse case we break even.....but when the 20% goes away we'll be way ahead of the game (even if we still get 10%).

The BIG discount that is happening now with some 20% discounts (instead of 10) and discounts as some quick serve and places not usually was in celebration of the 45th Anniversary and is supposed to end Sept 30th and revert back to the old much more limited one.

I think I am still going to do TIW....every sit down we have booked fits the 20% with TIW. It also includes alcohol which we will drink with meals. We are on vaca! We can use the AP discount for QS and other places if it applies. Thanks for your help!

is the AP discount good for dining packages (fantasmic, music of pixar live, etc)?

Another nice TiW twist (if they haven't fixed the loophole) is that the QS dining/pantry locations that exist, you can use TiW to buy beer and wine WITH the 20% discount, without the 18% gratuity. (You're checking out at a cash register)

This works (worked) at SSR. (But it didn't at BC) ... hit and miss
