We are contemplating the TIW card for our visit in Sept. Can I purchase this now thru the phone, or should I wait to get to Florida? Does this have an expiration from time of purchase or first time use in parks? (Does this makes sense  ) Hope my question is somewhat clear . TIA!!! :goodvibes

expires about 13 months after purchase... pick it up when you get there... it will last longer

It only takes 5 minutes at any Guest Relations location at any park or DTD.

We purchased ours at MK Will Call booth after getting our AP's. We purchased it on 5/25/10 and it expires on 6/30/11.

Perfect ! Thanks so much for your reply! :goodvibes

UPCOMING TRIP: LABOR DAY WEEKEND AT BCV !!! :cool1:

Since you will be at BCV, I'll add that you can even purchase it at the International Gateway entrance.

We purchased ours there on the way into Epcot the night we checked in. Very convenient.

wow...and here I thought it was only for the length of your stay!! I am so excited since now I can also use it when we go back again before our AP's expire....

just another reason to book right when we return from our trip in Nov! :woohoo:

Does anyone know if you get charged the 18% gratuity at the counter service places included in the list of restaurants ie flame tree barbecue & restaurantosaurus?

I have a question on this......
You get a 20% discount on your bill, but they add an 18% tip.
Are you really getting a 2% discount?
Is the tip added before or after the 20% discount.
I'm sure this is a good deal, I'm just missing something.
Help me understand.
Thanks - Karen

Assuming you're tipping a nice 18% anyway, it's a 20% discount.

If you're not tipping nicely, then it's not as good of a discount. :)

And I believe as with any auto-tip, if the service is really that awful, talk to the manager about it to either get the service changed for the better right then and there, or to leave a lower tip (and let them know WHY).

Exactly. I would normally tip 20% anyway. With the TIW card, if they don't put an automatic tip on my bill I tip the 20%. It's easy to calculate since it's the same $ as the discount! If they've already added the 18%, I usually don't bother to adjust it up to the 20%.

You are required to tip whether you get a discount or not, so having the card makes no differernce in your tipping. You are charged 18% of the sub total bill (before taxes) and they take 20% off the sub total bill (before taxes) -- both percentages are done on the same amount. THis is also the way the bill is done when a CM uses their discount. This started years ago because there are some folks who only tipped on the discount amount and not the full amount. When you get a discount on dining you are suppose to tip on what the full bill would've been. For example, as CMs once upon a time, we use to get HDDR at 50% off per person. Added to it was the tip, which was the full tip as if the bill was full price. (so the discount is only on the actually cost of the show)

Also for the poster asking about tips on CS....there has never been a tip added to a counter service that accepts the TiW card to include the value resorts food courts, PO-FQ food court, and the CS at the AK. There is only one food court that adds a tip and that is the Pepper Market and they do not accept the TiW card.

Does anyone know where guest relations is located at the Marketplace?

Do you get a discount on the TIW card for being a DVC member or just for being an annual pass holder?
