TiW break-even point = $375

Can someone explain TiW for me? I guess reading it on the Disney site and now on here, I am somewhat confused. What do you mean by the 'break even' price? Why would it not just be a bargain getting it? Does each person in your party have to get it, or for just one person paying in your party? Example, my mom and I go, we put both meals on a receipt, can we not use my card?

If it's 20% off food....where is this break even at $375. If you spent $200 on food, would 20% off that still not be a good discount? I am confused somewhat. Maybe because I have never used it:)

if someone can explain all this, it would be great!! :D:D

AP cost for TIW is $75
20% discount on $375 spent for food and drinks = $75

As we get at least 3 trips/15 days total per AP, and prefer signature restaurants for dinner, we usually spend well over $375 the first trip. After the $375 spend to break even, we figure the 20% discount covers our tip each meal(we do add on additional tip to the automatic 18% gratuity on the bill).

Only one card is required, and can be used for up to 10 people. Card is good for 13 months.

The card can be used for discounts for the cardholder and up to 9 other people. The cardholder must be present. And they are not supposed to split the checks - all the discounted meals are supposed to be on one check. You may find servers who will split the check anyway but it won't always happen.

Thank you for explaining that:) It now makes perfect sense to me. Definitely worth it when spending the money on meals for more than one person. My mom and I would be spending much more than the $375 together, so worth it.

Thanks all!!

We love the TiW card. Makes a lot more sense for how we eat than the DDP. We like appetizers, not so much desserts. We like alcohol. We share entrees. TiW allows a lot of flexibility. Plus, free valet and special cardholder events from time to time (not that I've actually been able to do one yet).

You also get the discount on custom cake orders to TS restaurants, which is helpful as some of those cakes are quite pricey, lol. The first time I used my TiW card, we ate at 1900 PF and had a custom cake for my mom's retirement. Our savings on that meal alone paid for the card.

Ohhh...I didn't know that about the cake order!

If you had one table service meal per day, the Tables in Wonderland card would have been worth it.
We used the TIW card for DH's birthday trip in March. We exactly hit the break even point by eating 1 TS per day. We even shared steak at Yachtmans Steakhouse. We had a great BD trip, and it was only 4 nights.
We will use the TIW card next week for my birthday trip. We purchased the card on 3/3/2011 and it is good until 4/30/2012.

With my family of 5, we hit the threshold on the second day as we budget $250 per day. 17 year old twin boys that are 6'5" and 6'3" tend to eat a lot. :scared1: Twin boys that age also make dad drink alot! :cool1: Both instances help reach the threshold quikly!

For individuals who already hold an annual pass, they already have discounts at many eateries around the World.
.
Now, some of these are for the week day only, are limited to four people per annual pass, and do not include discounts on alcoholic beverages. Yet, for many people, these already included discounts makes the "break even point" for a TIW higher.

If you are already planning on eating at the times and locations listed, then you are paying the $75 for an increase in discount of only 10% In those instances, the user would need to order $750 to reach the break even point. There are several establishments that already give a 15%-20% discount to Annual Passholders, at certain times, without the need to purchase TIW.

This is not to say that Tables in Wonderland is not a good deal, but that for certain people, it is not as good a deal as others. It also means that for certain dining patterns the "break even" point could be closer to $1,000+ Here is a list of the dining discounts for 2011.

I'm sorry if this has been answered and I missed it.

1. Is the TIW good for counter service?
2. Can you pick this up at DW or do you need to order it ahead of time?

Thanks!
