So we are going for least 20+ days over the next year. We just bought AP's. What is the break even number for TIW? I know we will pay $150 for the card and we do a lot of TS and character meals. I know everyone has a different opinion on it's worth or value but I'd love your thoughts!!

Since it's a 20% discount, the straight break-even would be $750. But, since you'll also be eligible for AP discounts at some places, that can skew things a little. I figure it's closer to $900, but it depends where you plan to eat and how much alcohol you drink.

For me, I've never noticed that many places that have an AP discount. But they might have added on. We notice the DVC discount more. And there's not a lot of crossover for us, with the places we like, where they take both DVC and TIW.

4 sentences to say "I don't pay attention to the fact that a few places have another discount we don't have to pay extra for". :)

So I see it as being about $750, but it's actually not quite. This has old prices, but it's the basic idea. Thanks to the now late Cheshire_Figment for breaking it down for us.

Here is a working example, using $100.00 as the original bill to make the math show up easily. Note this is for Table Service. At Counter Service there is no gratuity added.

100.00 - Original Menu Amount
*20.00 - Discount
*80.00 - Subtotal
*18.00 - Gratuity Added based on $100
**5.20 - Sales Tax on $80
103.20 - Final amount charged, takes into consideration discount, gratuity and tax.

Without TiW Discount (and still figuring 18% Gratuity)

100.00 - Original Menu Amount
*18.00 - Gratuity
**6.50 - Sales Tax on $100
124.50 - Total

$21.30 - Savings using TiW Card.

* Ignore the asterisks; they are there only so the columns/numbers line up properly.

For the complete list of locations and the rules, go to www.tablesinwonderland.com which is the Official Disney site.

Based on the current pricing, the following is the break-even point for menu pricing (assuming you will routinely give an 18% tip):
AP Holder or DVC Member ($100) is $469.48
Resident (not AP holder) ($150) is $704.23
Both of the above take into consideration that the Sales Tax is also discounted.

Someone needs to do the math for a more current chart, but for now it gives the basics. It's not actually quite $750, because the tax is lower because it's charged on the discounted amount.

And if you're dining at Sassagoula, SSR's quick service, the QS places in AK Park, and/or any of the Value food courts, you're adding to the value because there is no gratuity for QS.

The "tax savings" difference is $9.75.

I do not think the AP/DVC discounts are comparable, especially if you tend to order alcohol or eat in a lot of Disney-operated places. They do, however, have the AP lunch discount at Teppan Edo (doesn't take TIW) and a discount at the Landry's places which don't take TIW - But the Landry's discount applies only to entrees.

Since it's a percentage based discount the more TS meals you eat at places that take it and the larger your party is the quicker you will hit your break even point. We are a party of 3 adults (2 of drinking age) so TS meals can add up and we can break even in a week. We generally plan 2-3 trips when we have APs and the TIW card so we get bonus savings on the 2nd & 3rd trips. If we had more people it would REALLY add up fast. It's a shame they jacked the price up the way they did. But with the meal prices going up recently as well I guess it was to be expected. Still sad tho. We find it is worthwhile.

Thanks everyone I know it varies depending on how you eat, alcohol and what not but over three trips this year and 1 next April I think we will hit the break even point no problem. Disney is already making way to much money off of this family this year!

I think you're right! We are a party of 4, sometimes 5. We eat at a lot of TS restaurants, often wine with dinner. At 1-3 trips the average year (one long, two short for runDisney events), we MORE THAN break even every time.

We bought it at the old price and with 3 adults, we broke even out 2nd night. I did find that on our recent trip last week, there seemed to be less places that take it so I probably won't renew mine.

Last year I was able to use it for tea and the GF and at Spice Road Tables. Neither took it this year. I've learned to just ask, I've had places that aren't listed take it and places that are listed that don't take it. I don't think I was able to use it at Paris in Epcot or the tequila bar in Mexico but my memory is a bit hazy. I know I wasn't able to use it for the first time in my week trip until about 3 days in. Bonus the restaurant we ate breakfast at the Dolphin every morning did take it.

Thank you. You're right Spice Road Table didn't take it. Neither did La Hacienda nor Yak & Yeti. Don't remember if they ever did. All took either an AP or DVC discount on food but not alcohol. A few years ago they added most (all?) S/D restaurants which is a huge plus.
We travel as 3 adults and enjoy adult beverages with dinner. We will do more than 1 trip this year. So for now, it still works for us.
Thanks

We've gotten to the point where we eat less and less at table service restaurants at Disney, so we can't find value in purchasing TiW. The main thing is that we don't like t

Yeah, I'm pretty sure Y&Y never took it, since they're Landry's owned and sister restaurants Rainforest Cafe and T-Rex don't take it, either.

Spice road took it four months ago. I'm pretty sure they still do.

The big one for us was V&As we made out money back in one meal at V&As in 2013.

Also now with black out days and taking into account the DVC or AP discounts we found the break-even to be much higher than $750. We will still get it as 4 of us are eating for 16 nights but we won't save a fortune.

When deciding, be careful of the blackout dates for certain restaurants. I thought about AP/TiW for our upcoming trip since we are doing lots of TS restaurants. Unfortunately, our trip lands right in the middle of some of the blackout dates for our restaurants (CRT, 1900PF, etc).

It would have saved us money, but not with the number of blackout dates during our trip.

Good luck deciding!

WHAT??
Where is this? And how is it possible that with many Disney trips I have not known it was there?
La Cava Del Tequila is located inside Mexico down the right side. It is a small little place & the line is usually long. but yummy margaritas!
