TIW and AP question

Hi! We're planning a trip next summer for a party of 8. There are 6 adults and 2 kids (ages 4 and 2 at time of trip). We'll be there for 9 park days and we're staying off site at a rental house. We do plan on park hopping.

I'm debating whether to upgrade one of the Park Hoppers to an AP and then get the TIW card. We do plan on a fair number of character meals, and probably at least 1 nice meal for DH and I. I've never even considered an AP before, and don't know much about TIW, so I wanted to make sure my possible plan makes sense.

I have 2 options. I could get either DH or I an AP or I could get my 4 year old an AP. The breakdowns are as follows:

Kids 9 Day PH: $319
9 days parking: $126
Total: $445

Kids AP: $510
TIW: $75
Total: $585

= Pay $140 more for 20% off all table service for all 8 of us
= must spend $700 on table service food and beverage to break even...right?

Adult 9 Day PH:$338
9 Days Parking:$126
Total:$464

Adult AP:$553
TIW: $75
Total: $628

= Pay $164 more for 20% off all table service for all 8 of us
= must spend $820 on table service food and beverage to break even...right?

Is this all correct? If so, it seems like a no brainer. 8 of us will spend $700 in 2 meals no problem.

Now, deciding between the child or the adult is a bit trickier, I think. If I do it for my DD(4), then she needs to be with us in order to use the TIW card, correct? So it wouldn't work if DH and I went out for a nice dinner and bottle of wine?

But, DH and I each have 2 days left over on an old no-expire pass, so if I get one for DD, it makes an short trip in the spring almost free. Hmmmm.

Any thoughts on what you would do?

Also, does anyone have an link that explains exactly which restaurants take TIW? I can't find it anywhere on the Disney site.

Thanks!

Kristen

You can't buy a TIW membership based on a child's AP. The cardholder must be at least 21. So you will need to get an adult annual pass.

Depends how many sit down restaurants you plan. Some of the buffets don't really cost all that much, plus they won't split tickets on TIW, so everyone has to be on the same bill. You'd need at least 3 to make it worth it it looks like depending on what buffets you do. My TIW paid for itself within 2 reservations (we maxed out the number of people we could use it on for 2 breakfast buffet's for birthday parties). I think it worth it if you'll really use it. Plus you get a discount on merchandise.

Thank you! Somehow I missed that little piece of information. That makes the decision at least a little clearer. So if I want to do it, I would be paying $164 more for 20% off at table service restaurants. That seems to make some sense with the size of our party.

You are actually saving $21.30 per $100 of menu price as the tax is also adjusted. So you would need menu pricing of $770 to break even. And note there are some quick service locations in AK and some of the Resorts that also take TiW.

no matter what combination of park tickets you get, the break even price on the TiW card to make it worth your wild and cover the cost of the card is approximately $350 of food.
