Does anyone out there have Tivo? If you do can you give me your input on it. I am deciding if I should get it for my DH for Christmas. He loves TV and he loves sports so I thought it might be a good gift for him but I don't know too much about it.

We've had it for about a year and love it! We have a Series 2 player. The search capabilities are great. I have it set to record "Disneyworld+Animal Kingdom" and got three shows this week. The "season pass" feature is terrific, too. Tell it to record all West Wings (or whatever show you like) and it picks them up regardless of when they're on. Being able to pause live TV to answer the phone, etc. is wonderful, as is the ability to fast-forward through commercials.

My only issue is we have a high def TV and Tivo (unless its the DirecTV Tivo) doesn't record in HD. We are considering getting DirecTV just for this reason.

See tivo.com for details.

I think it's a great gift!

Is there a piece you buy and then pay someone monthly? How does it work?

DH got me Tivo last year for Christmas. We love it. DH gets up at 400 every morning, so bedtime is at 930 for us. We don't have to worry about missing West Wing, Law and Order, Law and Order:CI. I just Tivo it and then during the rest of the week or on the weekend we watch our shows.

I worship at the Tivo altar. I not only don't miss my favorite shows but it makes suggestions as to what I might like to watch based on my viewing habits. I can enter a keyword such as "disney world" and it'll record shows about disney world for me. It will change your life. You can pause live tv so you can run for milk and not miss the 2nd 1/2 of your show, you can rewind live tv to find out if that person really said that. You won't be tied to your tv schedule anymore.

At a Super Bowl party I attended last year, the host must have rewound and paused the halftime show a zillion times. lol

If your husband loves TV, he'll love TiVo.

We love TiVO in this household. We've had it for about 18 months and it has totally changed the way we watch TV. Our TV watching time is limited so it's great to be able to only watch what interests us. The search feature is super-simple to use. You can search by actor or subject or title or keyword... It's caught a few performances I would have missed otherwise!

I really like the Season Pass feaure, which records your favorite shows whenever they come on. We never miss our favorites - ever!. I was telling my SIL about a new show that I had started watching. She asked me when it was on and all I could say was, "When it pops up on TiVO."

We do have DirecTV but haven't invested in the HD TiVO tuner yet - waiting for the price to come down a little.

Hope this helps!

Ok then what about this there is a 40 hour one and 80 hour one and one that records onto a dvd which one?? And did you purchase the one price for a lifetime or did you just purchase the monthly fee?

If you get Tivo through DirecTV it's like 4.99 a month - going straight through Tivo it's like 12.99 a month - a lifetime subscription if for that particular model - so if you upgrade your unit you have to get another subscription (so it's just the lifetime of the unit, not the service).

LOVE IT!!!!!

Question: I have a DVD/R/W. Will Tivo work with this or do I have to buy another box?
