Tivo, is it worth it?

Oh yes! We love ours. Ours is a Sony model that's 4-5 years old. We replaced the hard drive with a bigger one when the original crapped out after 2 years. It still works great. At some point in the future, we'll be shopping for a HD Tivo.

Geez, I had no idea their were so many "Tivo" options??? This is cool. Now I just have to figure out what's the best way to go???

My main "TV" obssession (dont laugh) is Will & Grace (of course :goodvibes ) and The Golden Girls. Even though they are all re-runs(except this last season of W&G) and I could buy some seasons on DVD, I love watching them. Oh yeah I forgot OPRAH!! (hee hee)

Can you plug in a certain celebrity name (besides shows) and have it record anything with them in it? Also, can you record shows while watching another progarm/channel???

You can do a feature search of director, producer, date, actor, etc. I've never done it though.

And yes, you can watch & record. Multiple channel recording means you can watch something, and record two separate other channels at the same time...

LOVE it.
We paid $49 for one and $29 for the other, plus the monthly fee.
Take advantage of rebates..they knock over $100 off the price, don't buy without them..they have them often enough that you can wait.

Are you speaking of an actual TIVO or another product the same as TIVO?

Are thse things hard to hook up?

SO worth it. We rent ours though, from the cable company. I think it's about $10 per month....I kept telling DH we didn't need one and now I am SO glad we got it.

TiVo is the BEST thing EVER!!!

I always say, I don't watch tv, I watch TiVo!!

You can get a 40 hour TiVo for about $50 after rebates, or a refurbished one for $30 I think. We have purchased 5 TiVo's in the past 5 years.

Our first was a Sony and we've given it to grandma who can't live without it now! One is a Series 2 with lifetime, two are Series 2 refurbished monthly charge of $6.95 each (we have had NO problems at all with them going on 2 years), and one Humax 80 hour with DVD/R on it.

If you want anymore info on TiVo I will be happy to fill you in. :teeth:

LOVE IT!

We have 2 dual line Direct TV Tivo's (not their new DVRs) and I don't think I could survive without it.

One is about to crap out. It gets heavy use. We record about 5 hours of programming a day. We only record about 2 hours on the other one and it's fine.

We are on our 3rd one, I think they only have about a lifespan of 2 years or so.

We the family room one goes I'm sure we'll be at Best Buy that day to get a new one!

we've had one for 5 years now and it's still running strong and has been used everyday to record stuff.

MIL just asked me the other day about a show I had as a season pass from 2001 that has never been on again.

we got a 40 hr with the $150 rebate at christmas, i guess it is going to make me go out and get a rooftop antenna, the picture isn't real good with rabbit ears, or maybe it's the 50 inch hd dlp tv that 's got me doing it. when we had the analog tv and the vcr picture was as good as the tv picture it didn't seem to be all that important, but now i want the taped image to be as good as live. until they come out with the over the air hd boxes i won't watch much live on tivo, especially sports, but i could mirror the channel i'm watching and use replay if i wanted to see something again.

it does make me want to get more, though.

This is the 40 hour Tivo box. Brand name. :)
It's easy to hook up, I know because I actually did it myself..and if *I* can do it, anyone can. LOL

So, OP, did you get your tivo yet? If not, what are you waiting for?! :yay:

Just being a procrastinator :) No, didn't get it yet.

I will get one soon. I REALLY need it in time for the fall, but I wont admit why  No way!

I promise to let you guys know when I actually get my tivo and hook it up. It will be soon...real soon.

and thanks for the help!!

Don't wait too long... once you get it you'll be so mad that you did!!! :earboy2:

We have directv and my husband swears that we will get our TIVO for free. He says they will bill it to us but there is a main in rebate so it comes out free in the end. The service is suppose to be $10 per month.

They install home theaters where he works and one of the electronics gurus/nerds told him that they (i guess directv) is about to come out w/ a new tivo that we wouldn't want so we needed to go ahead and get ours now. So I guess he's ordering it today.

I don't know much about tivo other than it records for you, it will end up being a free receiver, and the service is $10 per month.
