TiVo 30 second skip tip

I posted this on the other TiVo thread but in case anyone wants a tivo secret...

you can fast forward 30 seconds using that button on the bottom of the middle part of the remote. The "Go to end of stream" button.

I think when you're playing something (or when you're watching tv, i forget which one), you hit:

Select - Play- Select - 3 - 0 - Select (S-P-S-3-0-S)

You should hear a ringing sound. That means its worked. Now, when you're playing something, and you run into commercials, instead of fast forwarding, you can just press this button a few times and you're right back to regularly scheduled programming. cool huh? since commercials are sold by 15-30 second spots anyway, just press the button a few times and all commercials are gone
I know it sounds confusing, but trust me, it's so worth it.

Try it out. I haven't done it since I got the machine but I love that function and can't live without it.

We use this feature. It's great! The sequence to set the feature is Select-Play-Select-3-0-Select. I imagine that if you wanted to skip a minute you'd change the '-3-0' to '-6-0'.

When setting it, you've got to be kind of quick. If you pause long enough after hitting a key you have to start over. Also, if you power your TiVo box off, the button will be reset when the machine powers up again.

The other thing that we did is add a second hard drive to our TiVo box. It's been a while now, so I'm kind of cloudy on the specifics. But I think our TiVo box (a Sony) had a 20 gig hard drive, with room for a second hard drive. So we added a 40 gig drive which increased our capacity from 35 hours to 105 hours.

That's sounds like a lot of capacity, and it is. But we never need to worry about anything rolling off. And we've got dozens of our grandkids favorite movies permanently stored on it now. It's kind of a DVD jukebox of sorts.

DH has this set up on our remote.

however I"m so used to hitting the "forward one chunk" button 3 times (super fast speed) that I always forget to use the (->|) button. heheh
