My son wants me to make Tiramisu for his Birthday. I think I have eaten it only once, let alone know how to make it. Can anyone help? Is this a recipe that can turn out good at home or should it only be eaten at restaurants? Thanks in advance

What better way then Disney style!

This is from Margie J's site:

Hey Margie we need to get you linked to the recipe site here somehow!

Tiramisu
Italy

Espresso Syrup:
10 oz. Espresso coffee
1 T. brandy
2 T. sugar

Mascarpone Cream:
1 C. Mascarpone cheese
4 eggs, separated
4 T. sugar
1/2 C. heavy cream
vanilla to taste

Lady Fingers:
6 T. sugar
3/4 C. all-purpose flour
3 eggs, separated
1 T. powdered sugar

For ladyfingers: Whip egg yolk and 1/2 of the sugar until pale in color. In a separate bowl, whip egg whites until doubled in size, then add rest of sugar. Fold flour into egg yolk mixture until completely incorporated. Fold egg whites into yolk/flour mixture until completely incorporated. With a pastry bag filled and fitted with a round tip, pipe ladyfingers approximately 3" long and 1" wide onto baking sheet. Sprinkle with powdered sugar and bake in a 350 degree F oven until golden brown, approximately 10 minutes.

For Cream: Whip heavy cream until soft peaks form, set aside in refrigerator. Whip egg yolks and 1/2 of sugar until pale in color. Add mascarpone cheese to yolks and mix until smooth. In a separate bowl, whip egg whites until doubled in size, then add rest of sugar until dissolved. Add vanilla to taste. Fold in egg whites until completely smooth.

For Syrup: Combine espresso, brandy and sugar until sugar is dissolved.

Assembly: Soak ladyfingers in the espresso syrup briefly. In an 8X8" square or round dish, place 1 layer of the ladyfingers. Spread 1/2 of the mascarpone cream on the lady fingers. Repeat both steps once more.
Note: Sprinkle top layer with cocoa powder.

CAUTION - Raw eggs are used in this recipe. Raw eggs can carry the risk of Salmonella food poisoning.

Here's an easy recipe that does not contain raw egg (used in the traditional recipe). Traditional recipes use a lady finger type cookie which is spinkled with strong coffee and then layered with the cheese mixture.

Tiramisu
Grand Floridian

2 c mascarpone cheese
3 c heavy cream
1/4 powdered sugar
1/2 t vanilla extract
3 T coffee liqueur
1 t instant coffee
1 10-inch sponge cake
1/4 c cocoa powder

Combine mascarpone cheese, cream, sugar, vanilla, coffee liqueur, and instant coffee in a mixing bowl and whip until stiff.
Split sponge cake in half, creating a top and bottom layer. Spread cream mixture on bottom layer and replace top half of cake. Refrigerate for 1 hour.

dt ! :D

The recipe above was from the Food & Wine Festival. It is a more traditional recipe.
Just before serving, dust top of cake with cocoa powder.

I think you can order a whole one from the Olive Garden.....or Fresh Fields makes excellent Tiramisu that you can get in their in-store bakery.

I love this stuff....(ooh, your ds's idea is a great one...my own birthday is next month!) but it just seems too complicated to make at home. I'm sure it can be done though...I mainly dread trying to find all the ingredients! Just try finding mascarpone cream in rural PA...lol.

I agree with buying it from Olive Garden!

Can't get Mascarpone cheese done here either!
