We will be at WDW in early August. Does anyone have suggestions on how to keep cool while in the parks?

Keep a water bottle on you. the Brita filter ones work great. You don't want to get dehydrated.

Sunblock

Dress light and in light colors

Duck into shops, rides, shows that are AC to get cooled off for a bit; this really helps and is easy to do everywhere except AK. AK is probably the hottest park.

Most of the parks have places where you can walk through a mist thing; Epcot has that Igloo thing that is very cold.

Carry a spray mist personal fan.

Again, I think at most of the parks, just getting somewhere where you can sit in the AC indoors is the biggest help; but also drinking lots of water.

Have a great trip!!!

Purchase those misty misters, they are a life saver! ::MickeyMo

...and purchase them off-site! They're making a small fortune from the price of those fans!

Also, they sell a "gel bandana" that really helps. It's a cloth tube filled with the same absorbant gel that's used in diapers. It expands to something like 100x its size when saturated with water. The idea is that you soak it in cool water and wear it around your neck and it helps cool the blood that flows through your neck. It's a lot like placing a cool wet wash cloth around your neck, except that it doesn't drip water all down the front of you. We bought one, pre-soaked in ice water, at the souvenvir stand across from the Country Bear Jamboree. I'd used them before in another place so we bought one. They were only $6.

Thanks for the tips too.... We will be there at the end of aug. Like the idea of the "gel bandana". Donnettar We are going with my sister and she is from powhatan, va.
spelling??^

1. Wear light colors.

2. Don't be modest! Wear tank tops and shorts.

3. Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate. Any restaurant will give you ice water. The water at the parks is not that bad either.

4. AC in any shops, rides, exibits etc.

5. Don't be afraid of AK. I've read on here that it is the hottest park but we did not have a problem there. We thought the shade was a plus. Dino land was by far the hottest part of the park. (no shade)

6. Think cool thoughts. You'd be surprised at what your body can handle if you just don't think about the heat.

One thing we never remembered to do was take a small towell to wipe our brows. It would probably help.

Have fun!!!!!! :firefight

Hey, I just realized I've been updated to a DIS veteran!!! I feel so :p .

Although I may seem obvious, seek out shade. We went one summer in Aug. and had to avoid MGM in the afternoons- it seemed to offer less shade options that other parks.

Also remember that sodas and alcohol can dehydrate; best to stick with water, and lots of it!

Water and Powerade best drink when it's hot outside.

If the lines are too long at an exhibit and shops seem crowded, you could always duck into a counter service restaurant and hang out for some A/C. Some of them have great views for people watching (if people watching were an Olympic sport, I'd be a gold medal commentator). If you feel funny about sitting at a table, be sure to order a drink or a small snack.

Thanks for all the tips. I loved the site about the cooldanna. I'm getting really excited now. I've been to WDW before in the heat, but this year I just can't seem to tolerate it much. Could the DISers please tell me some of the more shady spots in the parks?

Mom and I put a wet washcloth in zip lock baggie and take that to the parks. If you have a frig put it in there the night before…better yet the freezer.

I just bought the bandannas at my "friendly" Wal-Mart" Thanks for the information.:Pinkbounc

This is a must have - it really helped to have a towel to wipe my brow.

We make a point at being at the park before it opens and get as many rides in as possible before 11:30 or noon. You can get in more rides in if you get there early. We have counted as many as 12 rides in 2 hours at MK early admission.

Then back to hotel for a dip in the pool and a nap.

Around 5 or 6 we head back to a park for the rest of the evening.

This really makes the days easier in the heat and you avoid the worst crowds.
