tips on where to upload photos?

Is there a handy thread with tips and tricks for posting a trip report? I have a question I'm hoping people can answer.

What website do people use for photos? I was going to use photobucket, but I don't want to pay for it and I planned on putting a lot of pictures in the dining and trip reports I am planning.

Oh, another question...what size photo is recommended for posting? 1024x768 or 640x480?

I generally use flickr but have also used tumblr. I post my pictures in the smaller size, personally though I don't know if there are specific guidelines for this.
