On one of the forums someone suggested that before you leave on holidays to stock up on one hundered single dollar bills for tipping, sounds like a great idea, just wondering what most people do tip wise for the maid service in the hotels.

Um,
Hi!
I was just wonderingg why you would tip a maid 100$??? I hardly tip my maids.( I know bad bad me) But why do I want to tip them? Only if they did a good job or maybe at the end of the trip. What hotel are you staying at? I have stayed on-site 1 time and I do not think I tipped. but maybe on a holiday I would at the end of the trip. I do not know :)

I usually tip $1 per person per room each night. When I went to WDW I made up envelopes w/different characters & said "Thank you for your service" on each one. I put the money in them ahead of time, but didn't seal them, and kept them in the safe.

At non-Disney hotels, I usually tip at the end if I'm there just a couple of nights. When I go w/family, I usually tip for them since they don't consider it. :)

Disneyqueen, I wasn't planning to leave it all at once for the maid :rotfl2: , I just thought it was good to have on hand for shuttle bus, maid service etc. I love MaryJo's idea of having the envelope already made up, otherwise how do they know it is for them and $1.00 for each family member (in our case 3) sounds good. I would think it also might give you a little better service, when they know you appreciate it. Thanks for the tip MJ

I also tip $1 per person per day. When I'm travelling alone, I'll tip $2 per day. For bellmen, I tip $1 per bag. For a shuttle bus driver, I usually do around $3-5.

I also tip $1 per person each day for the maid, and $1 a bag for bellman and drivers. The ones are also good for tipping street performers if you are in a place that has them. Oh, and i usually end up calling house keeping to deliver something to the room ( like extra coffee or shower caps) so I use $1 there too.

I did the same when I went to WDW. When going to Disneyland, I tip $1.00 per person in the family per day, and I leave it each day. I am afraid to leave it for the end of the trip, because what if you have a different person cleaning the room each day. Whoever cleans on the day of check out would get to pocket all the money... I would rather the person cleaning the room at the time get the tip. I also find that the room is just a bit nicer the next time I come back if they know you are likely to leave a tip. Just a tip.... :)

We always use tipping as a time to teach generosity to our DD. To appreciate that the very people that make our vacation easy on us, may never afford to take a similar trip.

I also tip $1/day but I always do it on a daily basis because I don't want someone else to get a lump sum at the end of the trip when she may be only working that day. I've never left it in an envelope (good creative idea, MJ) and I usually leave it where the toiletries are in the bathroom. This way, they know it's for them.

When we went on our WDW trip last October I did a lot of planning and read that many people were doing this: They would prepare the envelopes ahead of time (one for each day of the trip). If you have 4 people in the family put $4.00 in the envelope and label it as "For Mousekeeping" and write the day of the week on the envelope. Then they would leave the appropriate daily envelope in the room when they headed to the parks for the day. This way it would ensure that the person cleaning the room for that day received the tip. We did the same thing on our trip and it worked out great.

I was just wondering how much you guys would tip a limo driver?? We're getting picked up at LAX and driven to Anaheim obviously...So how much do you think would be adequate?? Also do you tip the driver in full on the first trip or tip seperately for each trip from LAX and back?? There will be 5 of us.
Thank you!!
