Guys,

I need your help in term of tipping.

1. How much do you usually tip the driver of the town-car from FL Tours (and the likes)?

2. Do you have to tip the people who clean up the hotel room? (I'll be staying at All-stars Music)

3. If there is a bellboy, how much to tip him?

4. Not related to tipping, how much is it to rent the fridge at the All-stars Music resort?

5. Anything else I missed out?

TIA

Heres what we tipped.

Towncar $20 each way. There was 3 adults 4 children.
Housekeeping at All Star Sports. $5 a day room 1(2 adults 2 children)$3 aday room 2(1 adult 2 children)
No bellboy for us.
I think the fridge is $10 a day.

1. The town car company will usually add 20% onto your towncar bill....I always give half to the person who drives us to the resort and half to the person who drives us back to the airport....add on some $ for really good service.

2. I usually tip $1-$2 per person, per day depending on the service.....but no, you do not need to tip if you do not want to.

3. Usually $1 per bag.

In December our bags got to our room at ASMo before we did. Never say the bell hop.

I tipped our Tiffany driver from the airport to the Resort $10 -$15, he was great, told stories and talked the entire time, he took the luggage in and out of the limo (long story we got upgraded for free), even let us go to the store when limo generally don't make grocery stops. I did not tip the driver from the Resort to the airport because he did not say one word to us the entire trip, expect us to take the luggage in and out of the back of the van, etc.

Didn't tip housekeeping. They did the minimal.

I generally do not tip unless the service warrents it. That means going above and beyound "doing your job."

ahhhh, the Japanese approach. I commend that.
I personally believe that if one is doing their job as outlined by their job description, then a tip/bonus is not necessary.

In Japan, I was given the dirty look numerous times when I tried to tip the concierge and the chaffeur. It was later explained to me that it's considered an insult for tipping them when they are doing the things that they are supposed to do.

Since the search is not working, is there anyone else to tip?:

Skycap
Parking Attendent or shuttle bus driver at your home airport
Towncar Driver
Bell Hop
Mousekeeping
Fridge delivery guy
Restaurant staff (does anyone tip counter service staff or just sit-down)?
Disney Photographer - do you tip him?

I am trying to put away $$ in envies in order to keep track of everything. Is there anyone else?

Thanks and have a nice night.

Strangely enough, there are more and more tip-jars at Baskin Robins, coffee shops, and Krispy Kremes in Canada. I'm puzzled with this trend.

IMO it is greed. This is happening at more place here in the US, too.

I just found out a'service charge' added on to the bill takes care of the tip and it mentioned GF in particular as doing this( do not recall seeing it there my self but it was in a WDW guide book) so it you tip on top of it you are tipping 18% ( service charge) plus the additional tip. it also felt the average tip for housekeeping is $1 per night unless something is "unusual"( like I'm guessing kid wet the bed!). I thought that was a little cheap but depends on what they do.

I agree about the tip jars..it is getting ridiculous

The "average" (at least here on the DIS) is $1 per person per day, paid daily. Not just $1. So a family of 4 = $4 per night, paid each morning. Just remember, the mousekeeping staff is not considered a tipped position so no tip is necessary.

Logically speaking, once they've added automatic "service charge" then tipping is no longer necessary. Or not?

At least that's what I've been doing to my regular sushi place (I used to dine once a week, now just once a month).

This tipping thing is just too confusing... and here I thought tipping should be seen as a bonus for a job very-well done.

yes that was the point of the paragraph in the guide book...you already tipped in the service charge but I did not realize that was what the "service charge" was for and so always have tipped anyway:crazy: They also said "resort fees" are the same, an automatic tip added on.

and just so there is not a misunderstanding..the guide book was also the one that said $1 per night( not me!) not $1 per person for housekeeping

WE tip:

Towncar $10.00 each way for 2 adults and one chils
Housekeepers $3.00/day (three people) five dollars when they came to completely remake the bed - something got spilled on it.

Resturants 15 - 20% depending on service

My comments on tipping:

Bartenders and Waiters/Waitresses are usually paid far less than minimum wage per hour and therefore tipping is part of their income.

We usually don't tip our DW housekeepers because as far as I know, they are not a tipped position.

And those annoying tip jars at your local donut shop, coffee house are just silly. I doubt that the money collected in those styrofoam cups are going to be posted on the employee's income tax return, so I just ignore them.

However, our bartenders and waiters are must report their tips on their income taxes.

:yo-yo:

I agree. It is getting confusing. Tipping to DH and myself is also seen as a bonus. We have never left housekeeping any tips. My parents never did when I was growing up either.

You would be surprised at how under reported tips are even for those in jobs that require reporting. I work for a bar/restaurant in payroll/human resources. And none of our servers/bartenders report their tips to us. They simply get 8% of their sales as "allocated tips." Also not all servers are paid sub-minimum, in California (where I live) they must be paid at least the full minimum wage of $6.75/hr.

What about the boat captains on the Illuminations cruise? We will be on Breathless.

yes, I would like to know about this also....this will be the first time we have done this, also on Breathless.
