Tips on the Disney 5K run? Marathon weekend.

Has anyone done the Marathon or 5K run? We'll be doing the 5K through Animal Kingdom on 1/11. I'm hoping in 2009 I can work up to do the half marathon. I was always a swimmer and not much of a runner, so it's a nice challenge for me to work up to.

I heard the place gets crazy then so I'd love to get any tips. I know we can pick up the race packets on the 10th, not sure where, maybe Wide World of Sports? I'm hoping to get more info as it gets closer to January.

We'll be staying at the POP so hopefully the busses and everything leaves early enough to get to the race.

Anyone know how it works with families? I'm sure the park is not officially open at that time. My husband and 2 kids will be waiting at the end if they're allowed in.
