tips on how to save an autograph

hello everyone. i just bought a new truck and bumped into a famous singer at a restaraunt in palm beach. however i had him sign the truck. he signed it with a sharpie. i was thinking a permanent marker would last. but then realized it would not. took it to the dealers body shop about getting it clearcoated. they said they had to sand the whole tailgate, which would take off the signature. does anyone know how to spray something over something on a tailgate to keep sharpies on it. the dealership said due to the fact it is already clearcoated and thenspray wax applied at the dealership it had to be sanded. they said the could sand around the signature and the spray but it might run due to the thinners in the clearcoat laquer. and it would most likely peal. does anyone know of a sealant a spray or anything at napa or anything else that might work thanks in advance

This is coming from someone who knows more about kids' crafts than vehicle finishes, but is there some kind of clear film you could stick over it, smoothing it on to get the air bubbles out? Kind of like when you're applying a decal? Might not look as flawless as a spray, but it's all I can think of!

Take the truck to a metal shop,,have them cut the autograph out and then weld a patch back on the truck.Dont paint the patch,,leave it rough. Everyone will wanna know what happened to your new truck.
THEN you gotta story to tell.

I'm not famous,,but someday I plan on being the BEST Fishing Guide Bay Lake has ever had,,if you'd like, next time we meet I'll sign your truck for you.

Iff'n ya really like 'em as much as you say.....you shoulda had 'em
use a KEY instead of a sharpie. That way it woulda been more

it was alan jackson. he was pretty kewl. he spent about 10 minutes with us while autographing it. i can not post pictures here for some reason. i think it is the photo bucket thing. however. i do post on faceook. go to palm beach county firefighter camping group. it is a group anyone can join i am the moderator. i will post pictures within 48 hours. i am on shift tomorrow and can not. i actually already posted them on alan jacksons fan page the night it happened. i will reattach it to our camping page and anyone can look at it. however i have not posted a full new toy segment. i am far from competer savvy. my wife usually puts the pictures on our computer and then i attach them the rest of the way. but my next shift off i will post the pictures of the new toy.
and thanks for the tips. however i do not think i am going to have someone cut it out and reweld. for that i would just buy a new tailgate. but thanks for the tip.
