I have been going to DIsney World every year since 2005 with my Mom (DM).
I am heading back to Disney in 56/55 days (Nov 14-19) and I am not looking forward to it for some reason. :scared1:. These days I am no longer intersted in anything I used to enjoy/love... That includes Disney.

I just can't get into the Disney Spirit... I've been reading reports after reports, sometimes I get the burst of Happyness but it doesnt last long.

CAN somebody help me,
w/ what is going on with me?
or any tips to get interested in Disney World?

I was highly deciding on cancelling the trip. But decided not to, in hopes I'd get excited and happy again about the trip... so far not going too well. I've been going to Barnes and noble and just looking at the guides (even though i know a lot of stuff already).

I agree. It almost sounds like depression. Not because you aren't excited about Disney but because you said that nothing is exciting you.

The other thing is maybe you are just bored. Maybe you need to do something different or try something new. I get easily bored with things and when doing things multiple times (such as Disney) I always need to be sure to do something different -- new hotel, new activities (tours, etc.), new restaurants, new traveling companions. I can't do the same thing over and over or I want to scream.

I think you should call your dr and ask about depression. In the meantime do you have old photos from your trip in the past you could look at. Hang in there!

When you say you are no longer interested in anything you used to love/enjoy, that does indicate depression to me too.

I have found that for us, when we skip going to Disney, it does make us appreciate it and love it all that much more. We have now been 17 times since we've been married and had kids (my avatar needs to be updated), and on the years we have chosen to do something else, we have found that when we return to the World, our new found appreciation and love for it has been renewed! Two summers ago we took a break from Disney, money was tighter that year and my FIL had some complications from surgery so we chose to spend a couple weeks in NC with them to help them out. The following year we returned to Disney and we had such gratitude foe being able to go back --- it was wonderful!

I hope you're able to find your joy again, my thoughts are going out to you!!

I agree with the other posters that it could possibly be depression and you should definitely consult your doctor.

I know this is going to sound highly corny, but there is also this strange phenomena that has affected me in the past (And a few other people that I've talked to, some on these very boards): The closer you get to a Disney trip, the less excited you become. Maybe it's due to over-planning, over-excitement, lack of sleep, etc. The day before we leave for a Disney trip, I am sometimes numb. I'm not excited, I'm not un-excited, I just ... Am.

Maybe you just need new Disney activities to do instead of reading trip reports and WDW guide books.

How about listening to some Disney-themed music? Whenever I need a Disney boost, this seems to do the trick. I've filled my iPod with the usual assortment of Disney songs (from movies) plus music from some of the rides. attractions and shows.

While watching Disney movies is always great for a quick pick-me-up, I've discovered that watching Disney-themed documentaries fills the bill a whole lot better. Not just documentaries on the parks, but documentaries about Walt Disney himself, the animators, the Imagineers, etc. There are a bunch to choose from on Netflix and/or Blockbuster.com. You can also find some of these documentaries on YouTube.

Along the same vein, books from the library (Or bookstores) about Walt Disney himself, the animators, Imagineers, etc. are great.

Perhaps going shopping (or just browsing) for something new to wear on your trip will put you in the spirit. Maybe not even new clothes ... A new bag to carry in the parks, a water bottle, etc.

Keeping a journal is sometimes helpful. You can jot down your feelings, not just about your lack of enthusiasm for your planned Disney trip, but your feelings in general. You can also write about past feelings and memories in relation to Disney trips: Why were they special? Why were you excited then?

And ... dare I say it ... Maybe you've had too much Disney. Maybe it's time to take a break from the Mouse and explore somewhere new. Just reading, researching (and planning a trip to) a new place might put you in the overall vacation spirit ... OR it might help you realize how much you love Disney World after all.

I am soooooooooooo glad you wrote this... I thought only i felt that way and didn't want to say anything ( especially to DH!). You described how i feel exactly.:dance3:

Now on to OP.... what sparks our / my excitement is taking someone that hasn't been there yet. You get to share and show someone new the magic that is WDW. Their excitement is quite infectious lol. Also, if you are able, how about setting up or arranging a surprise for your mom?

I KNOW you will find the joy of life again.:woohoo::banana: Meanwhile... many hugs and prayers.

Hey there. I am sorry you aren't feeling up to your trip.

I'm with the others thinking you might want to speak to your Dr. if nothing is exciting you right now.

If you can't afford/make it to the Dr... one thing I found helped me when I was down/anxious a lot but knew it wasn't enough to seek medication (I had anxiety issues in the past that I used medication) I used a homeopathic medicine called gelsemium. You can get it at any health food store or health section of your grocery store... it just helped me focus and feel productive (you never feel drugged) and therefore I felt lighter and more able to enjoy things.

Make sure you are getting enough sleep (most people need 7 hours) clean up your eating... Tosca Reno has a great book called the Eat Clean diet... and get 30 mins of activity a day. All these things will help you feel great in general, which should help raise your ability to feel good about things.

See if you have something underlying that is really bothering you... Finances? Spouse? Job? and deal with it if you do.

Talk with a supportive friend, family member or spouse.

Spend some time being good to yourself... slip in an hour doing something that makes YOU feel good. Something I do when I'm feeling just blah or overwhelmed is go to a movie in the middle of the day when DH is at work and DD is in school. I don't tell anyone. LOL... not to be dishonest - but sometimes it just feels more decadent when it is MY little secret. Find something that is decadent to YOU and just go with it.

Lastly, while you are focusing on you - spend some time focusing on OTHERS! This week - volunteer somewhere - the food bank? Somewhere new. Sometimes I find a little perspective helps... in addition to a little new work that feels useful. Even if just for an hour or two. Open the door for everyone one, smile at complete strangers, start spreading the Magic now.

Hope you are feeling up to par and like yourself soon.

I've been on a new diet (lost 23 pounds in 6 weeks). As part of that diet, I'm taking 5 mg of DHEA. It really has perked me up. It's all natural and inexpensive. If that doesn't work after a few days, just call me and we'll talk Disney! :yay:

23lbs in 6 weeks .. wow .. can we ask what diet you are using?

To OP, I suffer from depression and take prescription drugs for it, and your symptoms sound very familiar to me. I was one of those people who would say "I don't have depression" and figured it would just pass, I was wrong. After getting help, I feel so much better. As a PP said eating 'clean' and getting some exercise can help.

Don't try and hype yourself up by reading other people's reports, sometimes building up too much expectation can lead you to feel dissatisfied with your vacation. Just go with the attitude of relaxing and having fun with those you love, and let the fact that you will be at Disney fall into second place.

Hope you feel better soon

my friend told me about a natural pill over the counter called 5 HTP. I bought it today. A lot of people have said it worked. :) Hopefully it works for me.

I am just in pain today (Girl stuff... at least i won't get it on my disney trip. :) ).

Anyway, you guys can email me @ tictackgirl@aol.com
or aim me. :). i'm looking for some one to chat to about disney. Perhaps that will help me. :).

Thanks for your help everybody. Hopefully doing some arts and crafts will make me :) again.

 hope you feel the magic again soon.

Please visit your doctor and tell them what you told us, about nothing exciting or interesting you that used to. Maybe you are bored, but maybe it is something else. I had the same feeling a few years ago and I finally sat down with mine after struggling for a very long time.

Are you able to get out and walk? You would be amazed what regular walking has done for me mentally. Do you have a dog that you can walk? I get pure joy just taking my dog for a walk.

1.) Start by doing a search for any new websites that I had not previously visited for information.
2.) live365.com and search for Disney music (internet radio)
3.) DVR Disney travel shows from The Travel Channel

I have to agree with the above piece of information, I think its great being able to share your favorites with new people. I am bringing my DF and I am thrilled to show him around! Is there anyone else you can take? Or maybe you can share some surprises, or do something different, maybe take a boat cruise, or see La Nouba?

Do you have any conflict with your mom that might be affecting how you feel? Are things easy when you hang out together or would it be at all stressful to be with her for the vacation? Moms sometimes have a lot of expectations for us....

Other than that, I'd agree everyone else, it might be worth it to look into depression. Exercise, nutrition, socializing, antidepressants and therapy are all possible approaches. Take care.

No. It's actually the opposite. We have sooo much fun at Disney World together. It's just that i think tooo much into the "future" and such and do have PTSD and depression from an incident a few years ago. I am now on 5-HTP and it is gradually getting better though. :).

I'm looking for new people to email/im with that are disney fans. I can be emailed and aimed at tictackgirl@aol.com i'm usually on at night. after 7pm.

THOSE ARE THE EXACT SAME DATES AS ME!! Get excited, we get to see the mouse in 51 days!!

I've been to Disney world enough times myself and here is what i came up with: go on the rides DURING the parades/fireworks/shows...etc because the lines are much shorter and if you go on rides such as thunder mountain, astro orbiter, etc. you can see the fireworks from them so its the best of both worlds..
