We took DS on his 1st visit when he was 14 months old. We had an excellent time.
1st - we took his car seat on the plane. He knew it was his & knew he had to stay buckled in. To him it was a long car ride. Ours is about a 2.5 hour flight. He slept most of the time. On our ped's advice we gave him a dose of a decongestant prior to the flight because he had a small cold the week before & she said we'd want to eliminate any fluid in his ears prior to flying. The ped told us the landing is harder on the ears than the take off. And that we should have him drink something (get him to swallow) during take off & landing. We tried to give him his sippy cup on take off, but he would have nothing to do with it. He slept through the landing.
All the small toys I brought to entertain him during the flight couldn't hold a candle to the vomit bag (great puppet), the little snack they gave out & the phone attached to the seat in front of him. Those three things entertained him the entire time he was awake!!
We brought our own stroller & gate checked it. He stayed in the stroller most of the time while we were waiting to board the plane.
We had a towne car take us from the aiprort to the room and we did the grocery store stop. I bought parmalot milk, peanut butter & jelly, a loaf of bread, box of cereal, bag of pretzels, sippy boxes of juice, diapers/wipes, case of bottled water, favorite DS snakcs, etc. We brought a collapsable cooler, which we kept under the sink area. Refilled the ice everyday (cheaper than renting the frig). I bought the diapers so I wouldn't have to take up luggage space. I knew about how many we'd go through in 9 days and bought a bit more than that. We took home the left overs.
We stayed at AKL. We brought our own pak-n-play sheets & blankets from home. I bought lysol wipes & cleaned everything he would touch thoroughly. I got down on my hands & knees when we 1st got in our room and scanned the floor for garbage missed by housekeeping. I came up with a bunch of peanut M&Ms and a bottle cap.
We made sure we brought his favorite (smaller) toy & his teddy bear (something he cannot live without LOL!!).
We tried to keep the same schedule as at home, but towards the end we pushed his bed time to about 10:00 to let him see the fireworks & electric light parade (which he LOVED). We let him set the pace. One day we spent about 2 hours letting him chase ducks in epcot...that's what he wanted to do at that moment

DH & I sat on a nearby bench and had a ball just watching him.
We all took a naps in the afternoon if we went back to the room. Some days DS would fall asleep in his stroller, which I thought he wouldn't do! We'd find a quite bench, put our feet up & have some ice cream.
We stayed for 9 days on that trip. I brought clothes for 5 days & did some laundry mid-way through. That was my attempt to avoid overpacking.
We took DS on any attraction that did not have a height restriction. We went to several character meals, but 1st observed characters from afar to see if he'd be frightened. He wasn't. He saw pooh from afar and was tickled beyond anything I've ever seen.
That's all I can think of for now!
Enjoy your trip!!! I am so jealous! We are missing our trip this year because I am pregnant (which is a GOOD thing!!), but I am planning on returning in February 2005 when the new baby will be one & DS will be 4...can't wait
