I have lots of tips for traveling with eczema I have lived in 3 counties and obviously been on holidays so I thought I'd give some tips Some of these are obvious others not so much.
-travel with more cream than needed.
Of course you probably know to go to the doctor and get cream for your holiday but diffrent allergens and climates ( even more so if they change quickly e.g florida) can make eczema flare up worse than usual. I would reccomend bringing more cream rather than visiting a pharmasist
As even tho in aus getting a cream at a pharmacy was no big deal, in america I got declined because the pharmasist could not contact my doctor.
- Dont forget medication documentation gor customs.
- ask your hotel for non animal dander bedding ask for cotton or polyester sheets. Fancy hotels or hotels that don't deal with alot of children are more likely to have animal dander sheets.
- wash in an antibactrial wash as soon as possible after your flight and /or change your clothes.
Planes are breeding grounds for bacteria and not only that but they live longer on plane surfaces. This can lead to infected eczema. Washing hands on flight with wipes and showering in antibacteral wash MAY lower your chances of infected eczema but I cant promise anything.
Personally I have travelled on planes countless times and only gotten infected eczema from a plane once but its something to think about.
- Your local hayfever jab may not work in other countries due to diffrent pollens ask your doctor if you can take hayfever tablets incase you need them.
- Be careful with new food and eating more junk food than usual.
E.g I had no idea that eating lots of sprinkles gave me eczema as untill I tried fairy bread ( an australian childrens party snack sprinkles and butter on bread)
I had only eaten an average amount.
- Keeping clothes in a air tight bag when they are in flight can reduce bacteria and chances of bedbugs on clothes.
