I know I know.not about food but the trth is that my WISH goal has brought me to this.
i began joggin and although, I am quite happy with joggin 2 miles, the truth is I am so winded and out of breath.

You have all giving me so much inspiration to lose weight, I though perhaps someone out there has the words that can help. Maybe some of you were smokers, or you know someone who quit but using a particular technque.
Anything .........at this point!

Hi Renee,
I quit after 27 years by using the patch and getting Wellbutrin from the Dr. That and a lot of patients from my family did the trick.

HI
i always feel that anything that will make for a healthyier YOU is a good thing to post about here not just weight loss

i quit ten years ago cold turkey because as i was laying in a hospital bed hooked up to a breathing machince the Dr. said quit or die within a year Max. SO i quit but it was hard and i don't recommend cold turkey if you can get other help

my DH used wellbutrin and it worked great as a matter of fact i know 10 men that have used it and they all qiut within 2 weeks without a problem

the few women i know who have tried it have not been so successful only 2 have quit
the other had problems sleeping , weird dreams and sick stomachs so definatly ask your Dr. about ALL the options

Anyway i Just wanted to CONGRATULATE you on your decision to become a HEALTHIER YOU:Pinkbounc

No advice here, but :grouphug:!!! Good luck to you on your journey to quit smoking. It's a huge step! We're all rooting for you!

I tried Wellbutrin about 6 months ago and had AWFUL side effects with the first dose, felt weird, like I was out of body, extremely anxious, thought I was going to have to go to the ER. Anyway, unfortunately still smoking. I quit the first time cold turkey, and that was 23 years ago when I found out I was pregnant, never smoked again until 7 years ago when my dad died suddenly, and quit cold turkey again for 5 years, and then believe it or not, started smoking again 2 1/2 years ago when faced with a severely stressful situation. I really NEED to quit again, especially with being signed up for the 1/2 marathon next January. I guess I'll go cold turkey again, but this time the thought of giving it up is alot harder. It's weird cause I can go hours without having a cigarette, and if I'm busy, don't even think about it, but the second I'm in my car or on my lunch break, I break them out. I think I'm more conditioned that addicted, LOL, if that's possible. Good luck to you.:D

I know what you're going through! My DH and I stopped smoking probably about 8 years ago. We did it together. It's so much easier if no one else in your home is smoking.

I quit cold turkey. I've quit a couple of times before...when I got pregnant with my first child I stopped until after my third was born (about 5 years). Then I smoked on and off for years after that. This time is forever. Keeping my hands busy helped me a lot. I took up cross stitching.

DH stopped with Nicorette gum. He bought it on the internet so much cheaper than in the stores. It comes in a lot of flavors. He actually chewed it for a few years until he was ready to give it up completely. The doctor said the few pieces a day he was chewing wasn't bad.

You have to be really ready in your mind for it to work. It takes a lot of willpower, just like losing weight. I'm sure all of us here will cheer you on if you decide to give it a try. Good luck...and do it soon. You'll be so much healthier.

My dh quit smoking a little over 6 years ago and he had been smoking for over 25 years and was smoking over 5 packs a day.

He used Zyban and it worked for him. He says that you have to be in the right frame of mind or it will not work. He srtill says that he wants to smoke but he never has in the past 6 years. He also says that if he ever took one puff he knows he would start again, BUT he is also extremely sensitive to other peoples smoke now and will NOT sit anywhere near them because it stinks so bad

Good Luck!!! You can do this.

I quit 9 years ago next month. I had my tonsils out and thought there was no better time to quit. Best thing I could of done. It's not easy and there will be temptation but YOU CAN DO IT!!!!!

I gave up cigarettes in January, 1997. I set the date in November, 1996. When the day came, I made sure there were no cigarettes in the house and I went cold turkey. It was the hardest thing I ever did but I did it.

I was grouchy for about a week.

I agree, cold turkey is the only way.

I had tried cutting back, I had tried everything else. This was 14 years ago (before patches and gum).

Finally woke up one morning and realized that where my back hurt was my lungs, and it had to stop.

I had smoked for 8 years and smoked an average of 2 packs a day.

I also have never touched one since (dream about it occassionally). Know that I would be right back in the thick of it if I did.

However, don't try to do too much at once. If you are working on better eating habits, get them well entrenched before you stop smoking. Trying to do too much at once is a sure way to fail at all of it.

Good luck!

Tell you what. I need to do this to and I would be willing to go thru the withdrawal with you. I have doen it before but like someone else said this time just seems harder. Some tips I have been trying I will share. Gum helps, while driving hold a straw or something similiar in your hand, sounds wierd but it gives you the feeling of the cigarette there without it being there, lots of water to flush your system. Most importantly people who will support you. If anyone around you thinks you will fail AVOID THEM!

Cinammon Sticks. They are relatively the same size and weight of a cigarette and I held them in between my fingers like a butt, and it filled the need to fidget. Also, when you stick them in your mouth to suck on them, you get a little flavor bite which helps with the oral fixation problem. They were especially useful in the car, a big trigger problem for me, I always wanted a butt in the car. Good luck!
