We have a Disney World vacation planned for late October. We're going with a group of our friends that have never been before, including their son. He will be celebrating his birthday while we're at DW. He loves Star Wars and we are hoping to surprise him by signing up for the Jedi Training Academy in Hollywood Studios. Does anyone have any tips so that we can ensure that we will be able to get him signed up? What is the earliest time you can get into Hollywood Studios to stand in line for the sign up? Does the participating child have to be with you at the time of sign up?

Go early and be there for rope drop. If rope drop is at 9, I’d get go the gates by 8-8:15. That way you are at the front of the pack. There will be cms pointing the way. It’s near Indiana Jones.

Yes the child needs to be there to sign up.

What time should we plan to be at the park if there are extra magic hours that morning?

The parks have recently tended to open early during EMH. Last Thursday, the park was open when we got there at 730 for 8am EMH. I'll follow up with some tips when I am not using my phone.

If this is a MUST do, then book an 8am ADR for Hollywood &Vine. We've done this twice and we were able to sign up for any JT show we wanted before we checked in for breakfast.

This doesn't actually answer your question, but if you are able to do the Jedi training, I would highly recommend that you have Memory Maker. The photographer captured some excellent photos of my son when we did it (7 years ago...*sniff*). The photos we got from MM at Jedi Academy were worth the entire price, IMO.

If its an EMH morning, be there 45 minutes before EMH starts. When they start letting you through the turnstiles, but still have the way ahead roped off, stay to the center. We cheated to the left side a little since you have to turn that way, but ended up getting caught up in a mini-traffic jam, while the center folks moved past us. If you are there that early, and go straight there at good speed, you will get a spot, but if you are a bit slower, you will spend 30min+ in line to sign up. Consider splitting up from your friends while they sign up and get a walk on ride in before going back to meet up with them :)

We were there last week. There was no line. Everyone was heading to toy story land. Later in the afternoon multiple times were available. Keep an eye on the projected weather because there is zero shade. Remember that check in is 30 min in advance. If your performance is cancelled there is a Darth Vader meet and greet. Also, you will.need to go to a photo center after a few hours wait to filter out your photos for memory maker.

agreed, worth it right there

waste of time imo, just get all the photos and at home delete the ones you don't want because they are not your kid when saving them to DVD/hd whatever

I don't know about that. I've never had a good experience with photopass cards. This trip the card have photos to the wrong show. I am not sure that would have been something that could be fixed over the phone, at least not as easily.

i have never used the card so maybe it works differently. with the MM on a magic band I can see all the images on my phone while I am in the parks.

Ditto this. We were there last Saturday. There was EMH starting at 8. We got to to the park about ten minutes before 8 and wandered over to signups. There was no line, and no one else headed that way. We got the first show with no problem. When we went back for check-in they still had the signs up for registration.

When we were watching an afternoon show (my daughter was obsessed, so even after doing the training she wanted to watch more shows) they were telling people they could still sign up. for later shows.

I'm still glad we went early because it is HOT, and the kids are wearing robes. I'd hate to be doing it at peak heat/sun time.

I know this is a silly question but I will be using memory maker for the first time this trip. Is there a place at the show where you scan your magic bands so you get the photos from that show?

Boy oh boy...it was a long time ago, so I don't really remember. It was pre-Magic Band, so we must have given them our MM card to scan. Someone who has been more recently would probably be a better source of information for you.

No--they give you a photo pass card with a code to enter to link it to your account.

I’m going to be going to DHS for the AP previewing TSL. Will we be able to get to the registration area (before the parks open), or will that be closed off?

I would get to the gate about 7:45am. There won't be a line to sign up for JT, so it only take moments and then you can check into H&V. They're right next to one another, so its super convenient. I have done this 2x and it has worked like a gem. The kids love the Dis Jr breakfast too, so it's a win win!

Our friends have 8:30 ressies at Hollywood and Vine. Will they be allowed in at 7:45 with us?
