My best tip is to enjoy it while you can - my first solo a couple of weeks ago went by so fast, I'm sitting her wishing I was going back tomorrow!
It was so wonderful not having to make plans around other people's wants/needs and to just take each day at whatever pace I wanted to - you'll love it! Just take your time, enjoy every moment and have a great trip!
Single rider lines at Expedition Everest and Test Track are wonderful time savers, and you can save your fastpasses for other rides. Getting a snack when you're hungry, grabbing a spot on a bench when you're tired, and just making your own schedule make the trip solo rule!
Let me know how you made out on your own and if you enjoyed it - I can't stop raving about it!

I was a little afraid, but after taking two dozen trips with others including family, friends, etc. I'm looking forward to going alone, now. I debated this for a while, but I made the reservation about two weeks ago and I'm not looking back.

Doing your own schedule I think is the greatest advantage of going solo. I love getting up early for the extra magic hour and staying late, too. Most of the people I've been with will do one or the other, but not both early and late extra magic hours. I eat when I want to and where I want to. It sounds all so selfish and I'm loving every minute thinking about it. I'm going to do some special events like dining with a Disney Imagineer for lunch. Normally, no one else wants to pay for the extra special things you can do like tours, etc. Well, this time I can do whatever I want.

If I get lonely, I'll call back home and then I'll be on my way again enjoying Disney for myself.

To enjoy the parks more, I will do breakfast and/or dinner at my resort food court. This is especially advantageous for the morning; because, you can eat before the parks open. This gives more time for the park attractions. The same is true the other way for dinner. I like to maximize my time doing attractions at the parks. Now, I will break the rules a little with a few of my favorite table service places.

At parades, fireworks, and shows I will strike up some conversation with the people next to me. If they are willing I think it will feel less lonely that way. If no one wants to chat that's ok, too. I've struck up conversations with a lot of strangers and it does pass the time waiting for stuff.

ty for your tips

i will try to make a trip report if i have the time for it.

I am going solo for the first time in August, and I can't wait. My kids are grown, I have one in college and one going to college. But I gave them the choice of coming with me but both want to stay home and work and things like that. I felt guilty right after I made my reservations but I am sticking to my plans.

I have no set schedule for myself. I got the length of stay pass and will go to the parks part of the day, some days being at night, other days in the morning. I will come and go as I please.

I plan on taking a vacation every year. My kids will both be in college and I am going to be alone, but I am looking forward to this new chapter in my life.

I just booked my first solo for May. I am so excited to get to do what I want for once!
OOhh first timer...

Are you staying onsite?
If so, check out the EMH (Extra Magic Hours) schedule for the parks for the month of your trip. As a solo, you might be a morning person who can up very early and get to the parks and enjoy that benefit. Or maybe you are a night owl and can stay up late at night, enjoying it that way. Or you can do as some do, and stay away from the park where the EMH are, to stay away from crowds! Thats the beauty of a solo trip, you can do what ever you want!

Are you a fan of thrill rides?
If so, the Tower of Terror, and Rockin' Roller Coaster at DHS are amazing, make sure you check them out!! Expedition Everest and Dinosaur! at AK are also good thrill rides. Mission:Space and Test Track at Epcot are awesome too!

Like something a little more low key?
Then make sure you ride Soarin' at Epcot, The Great Movie Ride at DHS, and the Haunted Mansion, Peter Pan, It's A Small World, and Pirates of the Carribean at the Magic Kingdom. They are all great choices!

Check out all the shows, see if any would be what you might like to watch, or maybe the different parades at the parks, they are all fun. Make sure you make time for World Showcase at Epcot. It is so nice and interesting, plus you can find some of the best snacks from around the world there!

Do research, check out the Attraction videos on WDW's website, study maps of the parks before you go, so you have an idea of the layout, and remember.. you are at the Happiest Place on Earth, just enjoy yourself.

My first trip was solo too, so good for you! My trip was really short, but I tried to fit in as much as I could. I enjoyed as many rides as possible and I wandered around taking pictures. Just listen to your body and do as it tells you in regards to breaks and food etc. I also talked with people in the lines with me and waiting for parades, I found for the most part, people were incredibly friendly. I actually only remember one line where the people around me were not chatty.

Have fun!

Sometimes it's fun to meet up with others from the DISboards. You can post here on this board with your dates and others who are there at the same time can meet to hang out, get a bite to eat, etc. I'll be there for 1 night/day in early June (June 8th-9th). Planning to go to Jellyrolls (dueling piano bar) Sun. night and Universal on Monday.

Yay! I'm excited for you. I've been to DL and WDW by myself when I tacked on trips during to the parks while on business. My tip would be to talk to other people. It's really easy to sit waiting for a parade by yourself with your nose in a book.

I met a family from England with two kids who were so much fun. They thought it was cool to be able to ask an American any question they wanted. :rotfl2:

In Disneyland while sitting on the curb waiting for a parade, I met a gentleman who was waiting for his wife. He used to work Main Street shortly after the park opened and was telling me some really cool stories about Walt Disney and all of the goings on at the park. It was amazing to meet someone with such a unique perspective.

Have fun!!

When in May are you going? I'm taking my 1st solo trip May 4-7 - and now I'm feeling guilty about leaving the kids behind with my parents! I've always wanted to do Disney solo & DH has a conference offsite (wah I know) - so I cashed in FF miles & am staying for free. Can't beat that! I'd love to meet up with someone else that's there solo for a bite to eat or to see a show, or just to go on a ride or say hi! If I get really lonely I figure I can slap my lime green DIS Mickey heads all over me & just sit somewhere - and see if anyone comes up & asks me if I'm a DIS-er! :thumbsup2
