TIPS: Flying out of Eastern Ontario / Western Quebec

We went to Disney Dec 18-Jan 1 in 2007-8. I didnt book any airfare until fall, which i'm glad I didnt. I got airfare for 4 return Ottawa-Orlando with Air Canada for less than 1600.00 taxes included.

From Syracuse thats about $900

I snipped this from another thread.

We have flown Jetblue to NYC as well as Orlando and they are GREAT! They seem to have longer legroom than other airlines and the TV in front is amazing. My DS10 is hooked on their blue chips snack :)
For our December trip to Orlando, we paid $688 for our family or 4!! Can't even get 1 ticket from Pearson.

Did it last year and doing it again this year
From Beloeil (Montreal suburb), we are driving to Plattsburgh (about 1.5 hour door-to-door) and flying on Allegiant from there. It's a very basic flight (no movie and you need to pay for snacks) but it gets the job done and it gets you THERE :lmao: The rates are great, we are going in August and it's less than 1500$ CAN for the 6 of us. The cheapest we found from Montreal was 575$CAN per person!:scared1:

Oh and we are not driving there because we are afraid the kids wouldn't survive the trip. We would probably strangle one or more of them...:rotfl:

My shopping technique is to bang expedia.ca over and over again for YOW, YUL, BTV, SYR, ROC, BUF.

This summer we found tkts from ROC for a little over C$180/person. There were many other flights available in the the low C$200 range from SYR, BUF, etc.

Two years ago we paid around $340 pp from YUL, but this year I don't think I saw anything under $400 pp from either YOW or YUL.

Shuttle parking at ROC is US$5.50/day, and it's around a 4-5 hour drive from eastern Ontario or western Quebec so you can gauge your fuel/parking/eating costs from that. We got reasonable flight times which don't require us to stay overnight before/after flying.

For us the cost savings outweigh the inconvenience of the half-day drive on each end of the trip.

A quick question about Allegiant... do they fly into MCO or Sanford, FL?

Thanks!

Thanks for the Plattsburgh tip.. another to add to my list of potential US airports!

I have to admit that I am kicking myself a bit for not jumping on Jet Blue a few weeks ago.. they had Rochester to MCO for 59 each way....

Sanford, so no ME! And when I've looked, the flight choices were very limited, and the prices not so much better than JetBlue out of Burlington.

This will be my second time flying out of Burlington, first on JetBlue direct flight. 2 years ago I was able to book Delta from Montreal at around 300$pp, very good, but since then, nothing less than 450$. I plan my vacations in advance, book the time off, the resort, ..., so there's no way I'm waiting for a "maybe" sale from Air Canada. The 2 hours drive is not that bad, sure I'd prefer the 15 minutes to Dorval, but for the price... I wouldn't drive 5-6 hours though.

Usually i go in the winter, sometimes out of ottawa, sometimes out of syracuse. syracuse does tend to be a saving. however, we always go in februrary, and lake effect snow can be a problem for weeks, not just the odd day. the drive from Watertown to Central Square is not predictable at all,

I am thinking we might end up out of BTV as well. JetBlue is a good thought since they do MCO. We love ME and now DD is 2 we have another airfare so the difference between in US and US/Canada fares is greater!

Thanks!

They do fly into Sanford, as someone replied, but we are actually flying into Clearwater this time around. It's about 8 more minutes (than Sanford) to our rental house so no biggie and it was much cheaper. Of course, if you're staying onsite and want to use DME, Plattsburgh is not an option ;)
