Can anyone tell me if the tab that is provided to you after a TS meal breaks out the actual food cost and the tax? I waitressed for years and years and I always tipped on the total - but here in NJ the tax has gone up to 7% and I'm not sure what is food or room tax in Orlando (12 %???). Sad to say adding those amounts on a check has forced me to only tip on 20% on food. Just wanted to know if it was "broken out" to make things easier for me.

that tax is included in the dining plan. Only tip is not. And I have read that the receipt has the dollar amounts of an 18% and a 20% tip, so you know those amounts if you choose to give those amounts.

i have heard mixed feedback whether the suggested tip amount is based on the food or the food plus tax.
but, the bill you receive should have everything you bought, with the stuff thats already covered 0'd out. as a server myself im pretty good with percentages, as i would assume any server would be so it should be pretty easy for you to figure out with the whole bill infront of you.

Thanks for the replies. I never thought that I would be somebody who "didn't tip on tax" - I always just added 20 to 25% on the total. But with state taxes going so high I just refuse to do it anymore. The other day I went to an ice cream parlor and they had the "suggested" tip of 18 or 20% at the bottom of the check. Both were amounts were correct if you were tipping on the total bill (including tax) - not just the food and beverage. Pretty cheeky! Sound like the checks at WDW are clear enough that I will be able to leave 20% on the total food/bar bill. By the way - anyone know what FL tax is on food and beverage in WDW???

Please direct any tipping questions to this thread. Tipping discussion is restricted to this thread.

Tipping threads here on the Restaurant Boards have consistantly turned into debate threads with lots of arguments. They all tend to get closed in the end once they cross the line.

The Restaurant Board mods are willing to create one thread where tipping questions can be asked and answered. HOWEVER, this is NOT the debate board.

Here are the basic guidelines

1. No fighting, name calling or debate on people's personal tipping habits. This includes but not limited to:
I will not tip my server more than I tithe the Lord
I will not give a server more than I make an hour
Everyone knows servers make 100k a year, why should I tip them
Servers should be paid a living wage and not have to depend on tips to support themselves..hence tipping should be abolished.
2. No flaming anyone for any reason.

3. Any post deemed off topic or in anyway against the posting guidelines will be deleted without comment and the poster will receive an infraction.

4. Any other thread started on the restaurant board for the "tipping" topic will be closed with a note to see this thread (This includes DDP board).
