Tippping

We tip bell services $10. We'll have our one or two suitcases plus groceries.
Housekeeping - we tip $2-3 per day.
Valet is probably $3-5, DH usually handles that.
We don't take DME.

I don't tip housekeeping, I tried once was told no they don't work off tips, and haven't tried to tip again. I also don't tip someone to hail me a cab I just walk up to a cab if I want one, or just call for it to be waiting on me whenever I need it, they are usually lined up and waiting anywhere you could want a taxi anyway.

I do tip valet (bringing and taking the car $2-$4 each way), and bell services ($2 per bag, $3 for ice chest or anything substantially heavier than traditional suitcases).

Housekeeping? 0, it's a non tip position. Bell service, $2 per bag, $5 min. Valet, $3 to $5 upon return of the car. Servers, 20% (buffet 10%)

I'm curious. What do you tip at a buffet? We may have 6 people total this year and I saw that they automatically add 18% to the bill for parties of 6 or more. I personally think that a $50-$60 tip at a buffet is a bit much for someone who just clears dishes off the table and brings a few drinks. That's a tip of about $10 per person. I wish I made $60 for less than an hours work!

WE have had this discussion before and there are differing opinions on how much work is involved in buffet service. I used to wait tables and buffet was Rough. WIth that said, I tip 20% at meals. When you look at the gratuity, remember that the server is only getting a portion of that money. That money is divvied up between the bartender, the bus person and if runners are involved, them as well.

You cannot look at that money and then to to figure out the dollar per hour because it is not all for the serve.

When you say per bag, I assume you mean luggage. What about groceries? Do you still feel a buck or two for a bag of groceries? Some stores pack 4 or 5 items per bag and you end up with 20 bags.

I've never heard of anyone tipping a bagger at a grocery store and I'm pretty sure they're not allowed to accept a tip anyway.

There's a thin line between a helpful tipping thread and a tipping debate, and we're getting real close to that line. Feel free to post what you tip, or that you don't tip certain categories of CM, but if we start getting into "you're tipping too much" or "you shouldn't tip this person because...." or "you're a cheapskate because you don't tip," the thread will be closed.

I use a grocery 'to-go' service here at home... I place my order on their website, and set a day/time to pick it up. They bring it out & load it in my car, and they are not allowed to accept tips. If they can't accept tips I can't imagine tipping the bagger either.

I tip Housekeeping 2 to 3 a day... i have done more and I have done less. Anyone who touches my bag 1 to 2. At resturants it is 20%..sometimes more if the service is exceptional, but never below 20%. I do the same when I go out to eat when at home.

I meant when you have an order from WEGOSHOP or similar.....bell services brings the bags up to your room. What would be a proper tip?

We tip $5/day for morning mousekeeping and $2/day for turndown service. Last day we leave $10 morning and $5 night. We stay BWI every year and see the same staff repeatedly. DD and I still make envelopes for fun. We also tip $2/bag for curbside at airport, Tiffany Towncar driver, and bell services. Restaurants always 18-20%.

$5 a day for mouse keeping and $5 for anyone who handles our bags. We had bell hop bring our bags to our room, then we did a split stay so the person who took our bags and the person who brought them back and then when we checked them in for DME on departure day.

I tip $20 for buffets and 20-25% for sit down meals. We are a family of four and I can't see myself tipping $40-50 at chef Mickey's dinner.

$5-$10 depending on the amount.

We do $1 pp/pd for housekeeping. Bellmen get $10 or $20 depending on how much stuff we have and how big a princess I'm being that day. (If I'm just not in the mood to help load and unload at all, he's getting a bigger tip for putting up with my precious self. ;) )

This reminds me of years ago, when my DH was active duty in the Marine Corps. At the commissary, the baggers work for tips only! So, they bag your groceries, and then push the cart to your car & help load your groceries into your trunk, so we always tipped a few dollars. The service was so nice to have, especially when shopping with a baby! That's unusual, though, but some grocery stores still have folks that will help you (here at home, Safeway is required to ask if you need help to your car, which I don't, but some elderly folks may appreciate the help).

If the bell services sends someone to deliver my Garden Grocer order to the room, it's usually quite a bit of stuff, so I typically will give them $5 for that.

I usually leave a couple dollars per day to housekeeping at Disney. Often I have a request, like extra shampoo, or if it seems I'm running low on TP and extra roll, or extra towels if we're using a lot of them. Stuff like that.

I had 3 Amazon boxes delivered last year to our room at Pop, and we were going to be out of the room. I left a note with $4 next to it, saying thank you for the delivery. The person delivering it left the money, and wrote to us to have a magical day! They didn't take the tip, even though they knew if was for them! I was surprised, but honestly appreciated the note telling us to have a magical day.

I don't tip the ME driver unless we brought along our luggage. If we did, I'd tip a couple dollars for them to retrieve it. Same with a shuttle driver for rental car or the long term parking at the airport.

Safeway baggers and delivery drivers are specifically forbidden from taking tips. (Although the delivery drivers can accept a bottle of water and we offer one on hot days.) I don't know how universal that is, but I know it's a thing here.

I only tip housekeeping if they do something special, or in a few rare occasions when I am running late, past official check-out time I always leave them something then for their inconvenience. Hasn't happened very often but when it has, I feel I need to do something. I never use bell services or MDE, we always get rent a car (or drive) and with DVC, I've almost never used Bell Services. However when I do, it's usually 1-2 a bag and I round up. For the airport when I curb check, I do this as well.

FYI - DME luggage delivery should not be tipped, bell services is tipped by Disney as part of the DME service.

:earsboy: Bill

Housekeeping $5 per day
Bell services $2 per bag
DME $0 if we have no bags (usually from airport to hotel)
DME $2 per bag (usually from hotel to airport)
restaurant servers/bartenders 20% unless the service REALLY sucked
