Tipping the shampoo girl?

Yest. I went to get a haircut. That was $30, I gave my stylist $8 tip and I gave the shampoo girl $2, so $40 total. Am I being too cheap with the shampoo girl? I really dont know what the going rate is. I actually wanted to whisper and ask my stylist but when she is not shampooing they make the girl sweep up all the cut hair, so she was around and I thought it was inappropriate timing. I just want to do the right thing. I know they are usually the ones who go to beauty school etc. and I am sure they could use the money too.

I tip $3 for just washing, $5 if she does a glaze, too. I go to a pretty upscale salon, where cuts start at $60. They do a nice scalp massage when they wash.

I used to be a shampoo girl in the high school. $2 is fine with regular haircuts, and $5 is fine with more complex services.

Ditto. I just can't afford to pay that much for a haircut. I've always been happy with my hair though. Same girl washes, cuts, and sweeps! LOL! And I usually tip her $3.

Back when I was a shampoo girl (15 years ago ), I worked at a big mall salon. Tipping the shampoo girl was pretty much unheard of, there at least.
I think $2 is pretty good for a tip, considering some people only tip the stylist that much. It depends on how much she's doing for you.
When you're a shampoo girl, you're there for the experience and tips are a bonus.
Once I started styling, I'd usually tip the person who helped me out.
But, to answer your question, yes I think that's enough.
