Tipping the mousekeepers

we still had excellent service, our toys ended up in some funny situations and tea party set ups and we had animal towels left for us....... just saying:confused3

Just had 21 days at OKW, exactly the same, tipping should make absolutely no difference to the service you get because they are paid to do the job. Each day we returned to the room to Pooh bear watching the Disney channel or Olympics, towel ducks, Mickey head and birds.
They do not expect tips but they will appreciate them.

Slightly off topic but worth a mention. We got married a couple of weeks ago on our trip to disney. We spent a couple of nights at the GF away from the rest of the family. When we packed up to return to BLT we were in a bit of a rush as we got up late . Anyway, to cut a long story short, I managed to leave my diamond necklace in the pocket of the bathrobe. I don't usually take it on holiday as it's way too valuable but wanted to wear it on the big day as it was a gift from my DH.
I only realised what I'd done that evening . I rang straight away but lost and found was closed so I rang housekeeping direct. The lady there was happy to report that the maid had indeed collected the robe and even checked the pockets prior to sending them to the laundry. Unfortunately as she had collected robes and towels from the whole floor before she checked pockets, she couldn't be sure whose necklace it was. BUT she had handed it in and it was waiting for me!!!! They would not allow me to give her a monetory reward so I bought her a photo frame and a card to say thank you which they did allow. I can't speak highly enough of them. I always do tip and will continue. Mousekeeping are second to none.

Great story :)

We usually leave $5 a day for our family of 4 - if we remember we bring some blank envelopes with us and write 'Mousekeeping - Thank you' or something similar.
Whenever we stay in US hotels, not just WDW, unless the housekeeping service is poor, we leave a little something...

Congratulations on your marriage and what a lovely story.

We usually tip a dollar per person each day. Three previous years at Old Key West have all had excellent housekeeping and I was happy to tip. This year was a different story. Our housekeeping was very badly done - toiletries not always replenishes, towels left in a stack on the toilet, no replacement of bowls or plastic cutlery, trash bag left in room for three days, basket and bags left outside our door overnight, two days with no service.

I kept tipping for the first week but then stopped, was not rewarding rubbish service. I also reported the lack of cleaning to the front desk and commented on the poor standard - no improvement.

On top of all that we had someone place an international call from our room while we were not there. They waived the charged when I reported it but it was still very disconcerting.

I think I might write to the hotel - do you think it would be worth it?
I will tip in future but only if we are pleased.

For housekeeping issues you are best calling housekeeping from your room phone and speaking to a supervisor - this will be the quickest way to getting it resolved as that is who they report to.

Sorry you had poor housekeeping though :headache:

I did speak to the supervisor but it didn't help! It didn't take away from the holiday but just a shame when it is usually v good. Thanks.

Also tipping daily is better if you are going to tip not just once at the end of the trip in case your housekeeper has the day off.
Plus, you just bribed them to do an extra better job the next day.

tipping tipping tipping, boy the boards get so upset over this topic. :confused3
I love mousekeeping and have nothing bad to say about them at all. I do have one question though...I have never received any pixi dust, is that beacuse we have no children? just wondering and we do tip...:rolleyes1

we don't have kids either but I think its just down to who you get as your mousekeeper...Sometimes on a trip we have had them nearly every day and on other trips we might get none or just one or two..its not down to tipping I don't think. :)

We have never had a towel animal we had the Mickey head on arrival but nothing else :(
