Tipping the Bellman

Okay let me ask this then..if we are driving, how will the parking/bags thing work exactly? Will there be a guard of some sort telling us to go ahead and self (or valet) park or do we pull up front while checking in and then go park or what?

There will be a guard that will ask for your name. He/she will then direct you where to go. Most likely you will be directed to the front to unload your car and then if you want to self park or valet, you can do so at that time.

Additionally, we give an extra dollar to any one named "Samsonite";)

So I can basically handle my own bags if I choose to correct? We are driving as well

How about this? We drive to the resort, we check in and take our bags to Bell Services, when we get back to the resort a couple hours later and our room is ready, we go back to Bell Services and pick up our luggage and take it to our room ourselves. All they are doing is storing it, we are taking it too our room ourselves, tip necessary?

Someone is handling your bags for you (in fact they're doing it twice, but that's getting picky). I would tip the person who gives you your bags from the storage. I really wouldn't bother carrying the bags myself -- just let them bring them to your room and tip. Sometimes the rooms can be very far from the lobby, depending on the resort. And Bell Services will not let you use their carts as far as I know.

We did not tip when dropping off bag at bell services for storage. It's usually just the person at the desk, the guy handling the luggage isn't there yet. I tip dollar or two a bag when it's brought back. From our room at the Polynesian, the bell guy came to our room to take our luggage for a later Magical Express pickup... It was 6 large bags. I gave $20 and he seemed quite pleased. Maybe people tip a lot less.

I guess everyone has their own tipping rules. When a bellman delivers my bags to my room, I tip at least $5 per 2 bags. If I drop my bags at the bell stand for storage, I tip the same, but only when picking them up. However, if I have my bags picked up from my room upon checkout and then stored, I will tip both times.

I know that WDW CMs are often subject to poor tipping because of the high number of tourists from low-/non-tipping countries (as well as plenty of cheapskate Americans), so I generally give waitstaff 20+% on the entire bill (including alcohol and tax). I leave the Mousekeepers get $5/day, each day (rather than at the end of the stay, as some people do).

Thank you, sometimes I think i'm in the wrong industry.

As bwilcox said, you can most certainly handle your own bags. Our cousins go to WDW twice a year and they let no one touch their bags. Tipping is a personal preference. Some do and some don't. That's everyone's choice.

Hey for us, anyone who wants to take my bag for me is more than welcome. I do enough lifting, cleaning amongst other things on a day to day basis. When I am on vacation I am on vacation.:)

PS. The little girl in your sig is so beautiful.:flower3:
