Tipping questions ??

We stayed at CBR in Jan 2005, and every morning we left our tip in an envelope marked "mousekeeping" and we left it on the counter between the 2 sinks. And every evening we returned, we were greeted with a new towel creature from mousekeeping. It became a big game with the kids to guess what the creation would be ,and they couldn't wait to get in the room to see it. I figured they wouldn't miss the tip there since I knew they were going to go there to make the towel creations.

I only leave my tip for mousekeeping at the end of my trip. Is that O.K.? On our last trip I had to pay 30.00 a day for cleaning services since I am DVC and wanted more than trash and towel, I left a 25.00 tip at the end of the trip. I just left the $$$ on the counter by the sink, no envelope. I hope that was o.k., maybe next time I'll write a thank -you note. The cleaning people were awesome, they even hand washed the few dishes that were in the sink as well as my son's bottles.

For bell services we tip 2.00 per bag.

We always tip the bell person but the same guy that takes it out of your car doesn't usually take it to your room, I tip both of them last trip $25.00 each (we had ALOT of stuff) LOL. How do you tip in that situation? I would like to know because it might save me $$$ on my next trip.

Here's how we handled tipping at WDW:

Mousekeeping--we did not tip them since we don't ever tip in hotels (nobody does around here--I had never even heard of it until on the disboards).
If you normally tip at a hotel, I would go ahead and tip at WDW--but if you normally don't tip, dont feel like you are obligated to at WDW.

Magical Express--we did not tip the driver when he dropped us off, since he didn't handle our bags. I didn't see anyone else tipping him either. However we did tip him when he dropped us off at the airport at the end of our trip since he loaded our suitcases. We tipped him $5 for two suitcases.

Magical Express luggage delivery--We didn't tip them since we weren't in the room when our suitcases came (we were at Epcot). If we had been in the room, I probably would've tipped $5 just because I would've felt funny not tipping when were were standing right there.

Wait staff--we were on the dining plan, and only tipped extra once: we had an excellent server at Liberty Town Tavern. I would only tip "extra" if it was wonderful service.

I never tip mousekeeping, and guess what? The room gets cleaned, we get towel animals, etc. Mousekeeping is not a tipping position, it is a salaried position.

Tipping has gotten so out of hand that I have made a choice not to tip ever again unless the service is far above average. No more tipping just because you think you have to tip.

Tipping use to be a reward for good service, now it is expected.

Okey dokey...what are the standards for tipping? For mousekeeping? We are getting the dining plan so tipping there is covered there unless we feel the need to tip more then the 15%. Do I need to tip the ME driver & the guy who delivers my luggage to the room? Also I will be taking taxis, what is the standard tipping rate for them? Anyone else I missed on the tipping list? All help is appreciated as I am not familiar with this side of traveling, someone else has always dealt with this part.

I just asked the same question yesterday regarding Mousekeeping over on the "Resorts" board. I was given anywhere from $1 to $7 per day.

I couldn't agree more. It should be called a "service fee" instead of gratuity.
