Okey dokey...what are the standards for tipping? For mousekeeping? We are getting the dining plan so tipping there is covered there unless we feel the need to tip more then the 15%. Do I need to tip the ME driver & the guy who delivers my luggage to the room? Also I will be taking taxis, what is the standard tipping rate for them? Anyone else I missed on the tipping list? All help is appreciated as I am not familiar :confused3 with this side of traveling, someone else has always dealt with this part.

THANKS! :flower:

I should mention I am staying at POP. I have heard that mousekeeping doesn't come & clean your room everyday. Do I still leave the same amount of tip ($1 pp per night)?

We will raise the tip to 20% if the service warrents. :Pinkbounc

We just got back from POP at the end of Sept. We stayed 6 nights and they cleaned our room everyday. I dont know if it is correct or not but I left $1 pp per night

Mousekeeping: I do $5 each day (for a family of 4). If they don't come or don't take...it's yours.

Bellservices(delivers bags to room): $1(to 2 small bag vs lg heavy bag) per bag I might round it off 8 becomes 10.

ME: I have never done...but $1-2 pp is always a nice treat. espically if they are handling your luggage.

Dining: If the tip is included 15%...in most cases, espically buffets, I wouldn't worry, but if service was great ...leave the difference to 20%.

Taxi: I just put a dollar or 2 on to the total...unless it is a really long trip...then I might do 3-4. (you could eveball 15 % and roll to next dollar amount..eg $15 trip between $17-18 depending on the driver.) MAke sure you have singles!!!

And I think that is all I have tipped at WDW...the only other thing I can think of is a boat captain if you are doing an illuminations cruise.

Have a great trip. :cheer2:

We stayed at ASMu and everyday mousekeeping came and left her $2 everyday for 2 person at the end of the week if you are happy on what she is doing I add a little bit more. We were also with the dining plan and all our server where really good, we had 2 1st timers from Whispering canyon ( Mystery man) really great so we just added a couple of bucks to make it 25%!!! O'hana and CP we had the same server from our last trip in May so def'ly we added more since they have very nice and had remembered what we want and did not want! So really tipping is upto the "showmanship" of the server/bell services!!! :)

Question about Mousekeeping--do you leave the tip every morning, or leave one big tip at the end of your stay?

Jan

We left tip every morning. That way whoever from mousekeeping that day got the tip. If we left it at the end that person would have got the entire tip and they might not have cleaned our room except that one day. :earsboy:

wow i never thought about tipping at disney, now i know when we do our yearly trip to las vegas.. you tip everyone for everything lol

OH MY OH MY! I guess we aren't like very musch @ Dis. I never knew we were supposed to tip at a hotel! Do you tip when you go to other hotels or just @ WDW-you know on a bus trip or family vacation ? I've never tipped @ any hotel. I guess I just figured all those taxes went to the maids somehow. Besides I was told the reason you tip servers is they only get $2 an hr---where everyone else gets minimum wage or more... :confused3
Oh well -

dont know how it started with my family but parents have been tipping at hotels since the 60's I was born on the 70's era and have been bouncing from hotel to hotel since birth... :rotfl:

I bought envelopes and I'm going to predetermine the amount we need for everyone. That way I know that money's covered. I'm also going to set money aside for room service pizza delivery and such

QUick tip Questions, planning on getting my haircut in the MK (need a haircut, thought why not have done somewere different)

DO you tip a hairdresser, and if so, how much

thanks,

3 days to go!!!!

Mousekeeping will come everyday to clean your room. $1-2 per person is a good amt. I tip at all hotels I stay at.

I usually put the money under the tv remote on the unmade bed. They always have to move the remote and will see the money. Sometimes I leave little notes also.

How do you leave a tip in the room? I mean, how do you leave it so they know it's there?
I've always used those envelopes they have in most hotel rooms - I write "Housekeeping" on the front and leave it on the dresser or something.

Several times I've left the whole tip up front - and it becomes remarkably easy to get extra towels :teeth:

Anyone ever tip and then get horrible service? We go to disney frequently and have never tipped, didn't know we were suppossed to until I read it here. So when we went in October we decided to leave a tip everyday. The firtst day the mousekeeper didn't take the tip, I figured she might not have seen it. She did a good job though. The second day we left the tip on the bathroom counter and I was amazed when we came back to find the coffee pot still sitting in the sink where I had left it, no new coffee to replace what was gone, so had to buy coffee the next day and I pretty much felt they took the tip and ran. They did take the dirty towels and left new ones but no new soap. My tipping experience was not exactly a positve one. We tipped $5.00/day for just 2 of us. Unfortunately Hurricane Wilma caused us to have come back home early so don't know what the rest of the days would have been like. We are going back in December so we will try the tip thing again but felt like when I left a tip I got worse service than when I didn't tip.

Some tips on DME tipping:

DRIVERS: Unless they handle any of your baggage (no difference between checked or carry-on), it's not necessary to tip them. You certainly can if you want to, but I certainly don't feel obligated to tip a bus driver simply for driving if they're not giving me a PERSONALIZED service such as handling my bags.

BELL SERVICES STAFF: Disney pre-tips the Bell Services CMs for delivering DME luggage to the rooms. They do this because the entire idea behind DME luggage handling is that you don't have to be in your room, the luggage will "magically" appear. If no one's home to tip, there would be a lot of very unhappy CMs. Thus, Disney provides them with a tip, something Tyler (Chip n' Dale Express) said is called a GTY rate, something he said Bell Services CMs are eager to get as opposed to taking their chances with the tipping public. So even if you are in your room when your luggage arrives (GO OUT! HAVE FUN! START YOUR VACATION!), don't feel funny about not tipping the CM who brings your luggage -- he/she is already receiving extra cash for that service.

When you're leaving your resort at the end of your vacation, that's a different story. If you have Bell Services help you with your luggage, they deserve a tip.

Some other non-DME tipping thoughts:

HAIRCUTS: I always tip at least 15%-20% UNLESS the person cutting my hair is the owner of the salon. Although I'm sure there will be naysayers, I feel no obligation to tip the owner of a salon, who is getting more from the price of the service than is a run-of-the-mill operator.

A NON-DISNEY ENTRY: CASINO DEALERS: I live right next to Atlantic City. Many of my neighbors make most of their income on tips. One time, I went to a casino with an out-of-town friend of mine (which is just about the only reason I'll go to a casino) and I hung out with him while he was playing craps. One of the croupiers was just about the funniest guy I'd ever seen and heard. He had me (and everyone else) very entertained the whole time my friend was playing. Even though I didn't make a single bet at that table, when my friend left I flipped a $5 chip onto the table and thanked the croupier for a great time. The boxman looked at me like I was doing something wrong, and I told him the same thing, that that guy was well worth every penny.

In addition to the above... yes tip bell service when you leave the resort if they help you, but you will need to tip the bus driver that takes you back to the airport because he/she will be handling your bags as well. I don't know how it works if you use the new service they offer, allowing you to check your bags at the resort instead of at the airport. We did not use one of the qualifying airlines for that.

As for mousekeeping envelopes, there are great ones you can easily run off on your computer from mouseforless.com
