Tipping questions

How much should I tip Mousekeeping at POR? Since I am OCD about germs, I will be taking my Clorox wipes and Lysol and cleaning myself. (I can't help myself! ) Anyway, I think the main thing we will need will be fresh towels each day and trash taken out. I'm not very demanding, I would rather do the cleaning up myself. I hope it's appreciated and maybe we will get some towel animals!

First of all, you need to know that this is a HOT Topic here on the Dis. People feel very differently and very strongly about this subject.
Secondly, Towel Animals have NOTHING to do with tipping. They are the luck of the draw and more likely the skill of the Mousekeeper. Please don't expect them, whether you tip or not. You will most likely just be disappointed. It is really the luck of the draw.
Personally, we tip the Mousekeepers. I travel Internationally for work and I tip wherever I stay. I believe it is the correct thing to do.
In Disney, we are 3 adults and we are very neat. I pick up each morning before we leave the room. I tip $3 - $5/day.

We intend to tip either way. I think cleaning a room after strangers wouldn't be a fun job and they deserve to be tipped!

2) Housekeeping gets paid up to $12.54/hr, plus other incentives.
3) Whether you get towel animals is not related to the tip.

I have usually tipped around $3-$5 / day but do it at the very end of the trip.

On a all of my trips I've found animal towels in our room, some visits there have been more than others, but I've had at least one cute "visitor" per trip.

During our honeymoon we had the most, but we did find 2 in our room during our stay at PORFQ. I love them and always look forward to it, but know it's not necessarily a given. (my DH loves them too and acts like a little kid when one is found!)

We tip $5 a day. We are not messy, but we expect the trash to be taken out, the bathroom area tidied up (my husband has a bad habit, like his kids, of slobbering all over the mirror), and the beds made. I don't need my towels changed every day because I don't change them every day at home...it is only the two of us and I know which towel is whose.

We tip $3 per day. I make the bed, hang up the towels (I don't need new ones every day), clean up the bathroom area. All I need is the trash taken out. We are very neat people. We have never gotten towel animals - I have never expected them either. So I don't think it has anything to do with tipping or how much the mousekeeper has to do in the room. A number of times we needed to leave a note that we needed more shampoo because we had thrown out the empty bottles and they were not replaced. So all they had to do was empty the trash and replace the shampoo - for the $3, and that wasn't even done. So mousekeeping can be very spotty. But, I'm at Disney so it's no big deal. But I really wouldn't count on the towel animals or on the room being too clean.

As a member of the Housekeeping team, responsibilities include, but are not limited to, overall cleaning of Guest rooms, including stripping and making beds, vacuuming and dusting and replenishing items such as linens, amenities and various supplies. As for clean towels every day -- do you use a clean towel every day at home? Disney does participate in green initiatives so that if you hang your towel up they will refold when they are cleaning up; if you absolutely need clean towels toss them into the tub.

Umm!!?? Isn't cleaning up after strangers the actual job of a mousekeeper?

Well, I never tipped in all of our trips. Maybe DH did way back then, I don't recall. This time I made cute envies, tipped $3 (myself and 2 kids). I didn't get shampoo that day or cups so I guess that wasn't enough Didn't tip again for the entire stay since the service wasn't so great!

I do use a clean towel each day at home, but I only change sheets on my bed once a week unless they need to be changed before then.

You're right, I know. I guess I just think it would be a nice touch to leave a little something extra.

Because isn't that what a tip is? A thank-you for good service? So if the service was not so good, why tip?
After having said that, we tip at a restaurant that may have bad service, just because it is expected!

We always tip mousekeeping $4 per day ($1 per person). $8-$12 an hour is not much money for cleaning other peoples showers and toilets A tip is our way of saying Thank You to them since we usually do not see the mousekeeper in person.
