How much do you tip at the character buffets?

If you are on the DDP, you tip nothing at all. A gratuity of 18% is already included, which is more than generous for a buffet, even if you receive top-notch service.

If you are paying OOP a tip of 10% to 15% is considered acceptable depending on service.

If service was just standard (good, but not outstanding) I'd probably stick to 10% or 12% on the server tip, but I'd give a dollar or two to any characters who did an outstanding job with my kids.

I think the characters really get the raw end of the deal. I have no clue what they are paid, but most people never tip them and they have a really hard job dressing up in hot costumes and being prodded at, and spit up on, cried at, etc. by kids and babies all day.

I usually tip 15% at buffetts as long as the server is attentive.

I never gave a thought to tipping the "Characters" How do you do that?!?!?

Most of them can't handle small things like money and usually don't have any place to put it.

We usually tip close to 20%, but we have always had very good service. For example, the server offers coffee to go with dessert. I appreciate coffee with dessert, and not having to ask for it is even better! I don't think most people tip 20% at buffets, but for good/attentive service we do.

Last time I think the only buffet server we did not tip extra was at Boma. The guy was nice enough, just not that great at service!

We have the DDE card, so I usually just give back the 20%. This way I don't have to do any math.

Unfortunately, if the cast member is statused in a non-tipped position (ie. characters), they can be terminated for accepting a tip. It used to be if you refused it three times and the guest still insisted, then you could accept it, but that was one or two contracts ago....
