Tipping question - Who's who in the Dining room??

Hi everyone!

DH and I just got back from a Royal Caribbean cruise. We're planning on taking our DSs on a Disney cruise next summer. I was just reading about the suggested tips for the staff on the Disney cruises and I have a question. Who exactly is the "Dining room server", "Assistant server", and "Head server"? What do they each do? What does the "Dining Manager" do? On the RCI cruise, we had just our main waiter, an assistant wait, and a "head" waiter who came to our table for a minute each evening to see how our meals and service were. We did tip each of these people, but now I see that on the Disney cruises there is also a 4th person?? Can someone explain each of their functions to me? Thank you!

The dining manager assigns tables and steps in when there are major guest service issues which can't be resolved by the head waiter.

We never met this person, never needed his services, and had no idea who he was, so we didn't tip him. I suspect that this person gets a much higher base pay, and tipping isn't neccesary unless he actually perfoems a service over and above assigning a table to you.

I will say that our head waiter, McClean was very present at our table during our meals last year. He stopped in every night, checked to make sure all was well. He also uncorked wine, shelled lobster, filled water glasses, brought our entrees when they didn't all fit on the tray in tandem with our server, and was there as a backup to our very busy server and asst. server. The three truly worked as a team, and he worked as hard for our table as any of them. We tipped them all about double the suggested.

Our head server on our cruise was Beata, and she checked on us the first night and every night, brought us our tickets for the Charactor Breakfast and would say hi and see how things were every time I saw her. I did tip her because she was very visable to us.
