Tipping Onboard

I recently came into a bit of money - haha, I won :yay:$1600:yay: on a penny slot machine on a recent trip to Vegas. I want to be wise with my winnings since I never win. I have put aside the money I need for our day trip to Nachi Cocom and now I want to put aside my onboard tips. I came across a tip calculator online - but it says it was last update in 2008, would this accurate? Can someone please tell me on a 7 night cruise who I will need to tip and what the standard is? There will be three of us 2 adults and 1 child. I know I can increase tips based on exceptional service - but for the time being I would like to set aside at least the standard.

Thank you :)

The suggested tipping amount is 12.00 per person/per day, including children. So you should budget 36.00 per day for tips. You may tip as much, or as little, as you like. It is entirely up to you. You may pre-pay them on your on-board account or pay cash on the last night/morning as you see the cast members.

Be advised this can be a controversial topic on the boards. Knowing the guidelines, I would suggest you keep your own counsel on what you intend to do to prevent any drama.

Also check out the DCL FAQ sticky thread at the top of this forum....it has a link to DCL's current suggested gratuities.

DCL's site is not showing that it is per guest/per day, just per guest. The Dreams Unlimited page shows $84 per guest.

Here's a link to DCL's page on Gratuities.

This is perfect - thank you... basically answers all of my questions. I just want to set aside the money now before it's gets spent one something else.

Thank you to everyone for their responses, I know this is a hard topic for people to comment on.

Yup...your point? That is the total per guest for the whole cruise. 84/12 = 7! or 7*12 = 84!

They used to specifically say 12 pp/pd. They changed the way they show it, most likely because of confusion regarding how to calculatethe total, but the result is the same. That's why I did the per day calculations for OP was to help avoid confusion.

I see tipping at the kids clubs is optional... DD plans on spending a fair bit of time there so I would like to tip something. Have others tipped at the clubs and suggested rates?

I do not believe that the kids club staff is allowed to accept cash.

I don't know if you meant to be 'snarky' or not, but I wasn't either, because everything else is reporting gratuities as per person, not per person/per day.

'Nuff said on it.

Okay that might be the case - I haven't cruise before, but the DCL site says "Babysitting - Gratuity not expected Optional" so I wasn't sure.
How old is your child? I think this might be okay in the nursery but it is not expected in the kids clubs. In fact I believe they actually need to turn the money over if they receive it. The nursery might be different though.

Sorry, I was just pointing out that what I said was correct regardless of what DCL stated. It doesn't matter if it is per person or pp/pd the math is the same. I don't mind being corrected when I'm wrong...but I wasn't. Incidentally...nowhere did I imply that it was on DCL's site. I simply stated suggested...which it is...everywhere the topic comes up.

But as you said. Nuff said.
