Tipping Mousekeeping

Do most people tip by the day, or at the end of their stay?

Since Mousekeepers do have days off I try to remember to tip eveyday. Unfortunately if we are in a hurry; I don't always remember to leave the tip out. I have had it happen where I left the tip but they didn't take it. I guess, they didn't know it was for them. I made it clear that it was. Anyway in that instance I left the tip at the end of stay! They didn't send it back; so I think they figured it out!

We tip daily since a different housekeeping CM may be assigned to our room part way through our stay.

We tipped daily, only because we didn't know if it there would be more than one mousekeeper assigned to our room. We wouldn't want the one moousekeeper who happened to be on duty that day to get the whole booty. The funny thing is, sometimes the tips were taken, and other times they were left on the table. We always put the money in our stuffed animals paws and sat him on the table. Maybe some days he/she/they weren't sure it was meant for them??

We always left a separate nightly tip for our turn-down service (free just for the asking in non-concierge!)

I tip daily also. I usually prepare envelopes before we leave home and go to the bank for $1's and $5's. I put the date and service on the envelope, put the money in and when we arrive at the resort, I put it right inside the room safe. When we leave for the day, I leave the envelope on the vanity in the bathroom. It saves me the stress of searching for the correct number of dollar bills as we're trying to rush out the door for the parks.

On average how much do you tip per day? We stay in DVC units, so tipping is a little different for us (only on the 4th and 8th days.) Just curious. Thanks.

I tip $1 per person per day. When we stayed at POR in December, I forgot to bring envelopes, so I used paper I had with me and folded it up with the tip sticking out. We got towel animals every day but one, so I know that at least one day we had a different mousekeeper. One day we even came back to the room to find a mini Christmas tree made from a pine cone that the mousekeeper had left. I had fun by making my own "towel animals" and leaving them for the mousekeepers. Anyway, I do highly recommend you tip daily, and try to leave them in an envelope if possible..if not, make sure they know that the cash is meant for them...otherwise, they won't take it.

Actually, making the envelopes has become a pre-vacation ritual. My kids love decorating them with Disney stickers, glitter and there are some cute pre-designed envelopes out on the web. It's just our way of giving back some of the magic we always feel on our trips.

As to tipping or not tipping the mousekeeping position, that's a very personal thing. For me, it's not a lot of work to design a few envelopes and my tip is not because I feel like I'm having to supplement their income. The very fact that while I'm on vacation, I don't have to make the beds, empty the trash, clean the bathroom and supply new towels, well that is worth the $5 per day that I leave behind. We travel quite a bit and tipping housekeeping is just something that I normally do, so I don't think twice about doing it at Disney.

I tip $5 a day for my family of 4. I tip daily. I print out really cute mousekeeping envelopes and fill them up before my trip. That's part of the trip planning fun for us too!

I do not care if in Disney's guideline booklet they do not mention mousekeeping as a tipped position. I choose to tip all housekeepers no matter where I stay regardless. Always have, always will. Disney certainly expects us to tip the maids on their cruises, so why not at WDW as well.

This arguement is getting SO old. It's a matter of opinion and no one's going to change anyone's minds. Do what you want to do. To each their own.

Ever since I've been putting them on the pillow on the bed and it is always taken. I also put about $1 or 2 per person, per day. Since I'm going alone this time, I'd feel funny just leaving $1 so I think I'll put $3. Just the fact that I don't have to make the bed or clean the bathroom is worth $3 to me, JMHO. I agree with most. I tipped $5 a day for my family of four. I left it in an envelope marked mousekeeping, each day. And they certainley appreciated it. They made sure we had enough towels and soap and always left my DS and DD,s animals and dolls arranged in cute scenes such as tea partys etc.

It is just my husband and I, and we generally tip 5.00 per day. Although, I must say, if the mousekeeper does something special with our collection of Eeyore's that we have purchased on that trip, then we will tip upwards of 10.00 per day. Last year we had a great mousekeeper. We had 13 Eeyores in the room, 2 we brought with us and 11 we had just bought. She made them a raft, a water slide, a hammock, a lake and an alligator, plus all sorts of other things. She got tipped like crazy! She was great. On our last day we took her photo, with all of her creations and all of the donkeys. It is in our scrapbook.

We tipped $5 a day during our stay and had great creations with towels and stuffed animals. It was well worth it to see the kids rushing back to the room to see what special things the mousekeeper did!
