Tipping Mousekeeping

Wow, $10,000 for a Disney vacation but you can't afford to tip? I can't afford a $10,000 Disney vacation, but I can afford to tip.

So what's your point? Would you like to see people reduce their expenses so they can tip housekeeping? Do you really think this or are you just .... ?

Forgive me but unless you are some kind of all seeing Oracle, how would you know what someone can afford? Seriously, do you not see how your statement is passing judgement on others? Believe it or not, there are actually individuals who don't have the same amount of disposable income that you seem to enjoy. You have no way of knowing what they can or can't afford. So please stop insinuating that an individual who says that they can't afford to tip is somehow being less than truthful. You tip - we get it. No one has shown any disrespect towards your opinion so why do you keep making those who don't tip appear to be villans?

I did notice that you like to pop up on threads where you can argue with people and get indignant and accusatory. Now, you are accusing me of making people appear to be villains. Wow, I do not write a lot to these discussion boards. I use it for information. Most people are quite helpful. I looked at this Tipping Mousekeeping for the purpose of finding out what is the right thing to do and how much. I saw a lot of comments that were kind of mean. As a newbie, I hope this is not what these discussion boards are coming to. As to the daughter who wrote to protect her mom. I can see how hurt you were, your mom is lucky to have a daughter who loves her so much. So back to the reason for this board. Anyone know if we really should tip and how much?

Of course it's a personal choice. But I do understand that people would rather say "can't afford" than "don't choose to." We all make choices of what to do with our money and I stand by everybody's right to make that choice. Disney is a luxury, not a necessity. The people who truly are too poor to tip aren't going on Disney trips.

Wow! This is just plain sad. Enough said.

Welcome! No, these discussion boards are not for shooting nasty comments back and forth. As a matter of fact, the moderators closely monitor threads to be sure everyone is playing nice!

As far as knowing if we should tip and how much, back on page 3 of this thread, one of the moderators commented on this topic. It was obvious she knows inside information related to tipping since she's actually talked with several different Disney resorts. I appreciated her comment because she actually took steps to find out whether housekeeping is a tipped position. I feel it's a personal choice but I think it would go further to let the front desk know if your housekeeper did an outstanding job!
