Tipping List

Is there a list somewhere that shows who you should tip, how much is customary, etc.

I was reading another thread about tipping the housekeepers and I just realized I have no clue who should be tipped and who should not.

I have never tipped a housekeeper at a hotel & now I feel a little bad. We are pretty generous tippers overall, and probably give tips to people who are not suppose to take them. So I would love to know which employees at Disney we should tip and how much.

Thanks

Don't feel bad. Until I started on the Dis I had never heard of tipping a housekeeper at any hotel. Truelly, I am still on the fence on this one. Isn't it housekeepings job to make the bed and bring fresh towels. I know for a fact my room hasn't been vacuumed every day and dusting is often spotty more times than I can count I have to request coffee, creamer and sugar (I do leave a tip after this is received, although I really shoudn't as it is part of what should be expected in my room each day). We book through CRO but stay in a villa. I think our housekeepers do their job I'm not sure anyone has really done something that made me feel they went above and beyond. In all listing I've read over the years about tipping, housekeeping has never been on that list. Bottomline, everyone should do what they feel comfortable with and not be guilted into something by others.

Sadly, while I do tip and always will tip housekeeping anywhere, I truly do feel that I am paying them more for just doing their job. I know it is not a highly paid position, so I am not looking for flames. I just feel that tipping was always intended for thanking an individual for good service- after the fact. That is why we tip servers after dining, bellhops after delivering items to the room and possibly showing room features, etc., to the valet who brings my car back in one piece... It's a tough call for me with housekeeping anywhere-- although one of our favorite, fairly high priced inns adds $2 per room/per day for housekeeping automatically. The hard thing about tipping at the end of a long stay is who gets the tip? The person who cleaned beautifully and arranged my DDs' stuffed animals (every hotel I've EVER been at!), or the one who forgot to leave clean glasses and more soap. Even pooling tips would hurt the top housekeepers and benefit those who weren't as thorough.

I'm thinking out of the $385 I'm paying a day, WDW could add a couple of those dollars onto the housekeeping for jobs well done regularly (ie-- inspected by management as well done)-- merit pay so to speak. Tipping housekeeping is one of those tough things and I for one do not blame any individual who never knew tipping was "expected".

Don't even get me started on the tip cups at Dunkin' Donuts for handing the coffee across the counter. That is something I just try to ignore.:rolleyes1

BTW-- here is one link to tipping suggestions for WDW Tipping at WDW

Thank you for the input. I have a few other questions.

1. How much do you tip at character buffet meals? Is it still the standard 15-20%?

2. What about the shuttle bus drivers? do you tip them? If so, how much?

3. What about the Magic Express driver? If so, how much?

4. What about people that give you a tour? We signed up for a tour, should we tip the tourguide if we are happy with the tour? If so, how much?

I obviously dont think we should tip every single person that does even the smallest thing for us, but I dont want to shortchange anyone.

thanks!
