Tipping Info Thread for Disney Dining

Our party is 6 people including our toddler. That means gratuity will be added automatically. Do they automatically charge it to the CC on our KTTW, or do they give us a bill with it due? Just trying to plan so I don't mess up.

they give you a bill, and you indicate how you want to pay (cash, credit card or charged to your room via KTTW card.)

I have a friend that just got back from Disney, and then went to CRT (dining plan 2 credits) and then I said "even though it's 2 credits at least the tip is included". She said no tip isn't included, I said tip is included dining plan or not for CRT. Has there been a change that I am not up to speed with?

The tip is included in the price of the meal, whether you're on the Dining Plan or not.

we are using the dining plan for the first time. i see that we can pay for tips with a credit card, but how does this work? do we give our dining plan cards and credit cards at the same time? would it be easier to just tip in cash?

Whichever is easiest for you is the right way to do it for your group.

If you opt to use a credit card, give them the credit card and the KTTW card and say "Please take dining credits off of the card and put the tip on the Credit Card"

You can also attach a credit card to your KTTW card. If you do this, ask them to take the credits off for the meal and put the rest on the card.

It's very simple really and the servers are very used to the different ways to pay, so they're flexible and accommodating.

Leaving for the first time this week!!!

I am trying to plan tips for the meals. We are on the dining plan and are doing the following:

CRT
Tusker House
Ashkaus ( sp)
Crystal Palace
Chefs Mickey

When I look up prices, for example Tusker house it says " Breakfast buffet, prices vary 15.00-35.99". How do I plan tips from that? Isnt there a base price for the buffet?

I am just confused. And with the CRT, do you still tip, or is gratuity a part of that one? Thanks so much for the help in advance.

CRT - yes, the tip is included.
Buffets, character and other - the exact price depends on the specific meal and the age range of the diner. Where are you looking? If you check the menus here on the DIS www.wdwinfo.com or allearsnet.com, you should find the exact pricing and be able to determine your tips from that.

Are you expected to tip 15-20 percent for buffets also? I normally leave $5 for the two of us since all they do is bring us a drink and clear plates. The only buffets we are attending is the Clam Bake at the Beach club and a couple of character meals. We will carry cash for tipping.

5. No personal tipping habits are to be discussed. Generally speaking, what you tip at Disney is entirely up to you. To figure out what your meal will run, check out the menus here on the DIS. This will give you an idea of the meal cost. Disney does provide 18% and 20% calculations on the dining receipt. What you actually tip, is up to you with the exceptions below.

The exceptions to this are those using the Tables in Wonderland (TiW) Discount Card and parties of 6 or more. If you are in either one of these categories, you will have an auto gratuity of 18% added to your bill. Adjustments to this would need to be discussed with a manager.

Parties of 6 include everyone at the table, including children under 3 and infants. If you are dining with another group and paying separate, you are still subject to the 18% gratuity added to the bill. Each group at the table can get their own bill with their portion of the gratuity split out.

Please note – Disney does not differentiate between types of Table Service – buffets, all you care to eat and menu ordering locations are all treated equal and subject to the same guidelines by Disney.

There is always concern expressed about a set gratuity and service. Your option is to talk to the manager at the time of the incident. The only adjustment possible is done by the restaurant manager. Better to speak to the manager early on and receive improved service than to complain at the end to request reduced gratuity

I'm English so tipping the american way is a bit alien to me.

I had assumed that if you had bad service/fod etc you would leave no tip, but then i read that if you do this then it would just be thought that you don't tip, and that it's better to leave a $1 tip or similiar to show that you know to tip but that the service wasn't worth doing so.

Which do you do?

See a manager to head off any bad service. Don't suffer through it. No need to have a miserable dining experience when any problem can be corrected - if you let someone in charge know there is a problem

Also, don't confuse a kitchen problem with a service problem.

Even though you may not be subject to a set gratuity, the underlined advice is good advice.

I've ALWAYS believed it's wrong to confuse a kitchen prob with the server. The server didn't make it. Great comment!
