Does anyone know what the proper etiquette is for all the people i should be tipping while were on vacation there? Im feeling a bit lost:confused3

You tip the valet guys when they take your car and when they bring it back. You tip the people that carry your luggage to the room $1 per bag or more. You tip you housekeeper $1 per person per night. You tip waitress/waiter at the restaurant (TS).

Oh boy. This should get interesting. I won't say what I do is proper, but I tip the following folks: bell hop, mousekeeping, TS and buffet waiters( I tip 20% for both), fireworks cruise captain and cab drivers. If I had tickets or grocery delivered, I'd tip the delivery person as well. If I took a tour, I'd tip the guide.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not another tipping thread?!?!?!?!?!?!

HAHA the PP is correct - this is going to get interesting -

The last tipping thread ended up going down in a ball of flames with people upset - and in satire - suggesting that perhaps we should tip the cashiers that sell balloons on Main Street!

:lmao:

Now I have to subscribe to the thread just to see if this one goes as well as the last tipping thread! :rotfl2:

My wife and I tip mousekeeping, bell staff, valet staff, and anyone else that won't get in trouble by accepting a tip. All of that is contingent upon providing a high level of courteous, efficient, and friendly service. If I feel that a Cast Member goes out of their way to assure that I am taken care of - and they go above and beyond what they are required to do - YES! I am going to tip them.

Am I appreciative of people who do things (like clean our DVC villa) - absolutely - I don't want to vacuum while I'm on vacation! So YES - I will tip!!!!

I agree with the above posts, mostly.

Also, I always leave extra when I have my younger children with me. For some reason, they are are a little more messy than when I go out with just adults. :confused3

I like to tip more for exceptional service and less for not-good service.

Interesting thread to start.

Proper etiquette is to ask every CM if they're allowed to accept tips. Give the CM the greater of $20 or 33% of the cost of the service (food/drink/spa) if the CM says yes..:)

For the benefit of anyone expecting real information in this thread Disney doesn't consider housekeeping a "tipped" position.

Wow - disney doesnt consider housekeeping a "tipped" position? What a bummer:sad1:

Some people tip housekeepers. Might I suggest 15-20% of your room rate. I'm assuming your family will be leaving a mess.

to tip housekeeping on a daily basis, as you don't always have the same person cleaning your room.

I stay Value, handle my own bags, don't take cabs...

I tip mousekeeping $1 per person per day, left each day.

I tip my magical express driver if he puts any bags/strollers under the bus for me.

I tip waitstaff at TS and buffet meals, usually 20%, more or less depending on service, and depending on the mess my kids leave.

Now I do have one question for you all, since I know so many people are sitting with their popcorn watching. How much are you supposed to tip a cab driver? I live 2 hours from NYC, but have only been in a cab once, this past January. I tipped roughly 20%, but it was only a 6-block ride. I wonder if this is appropriate, especially since I will be taking a longer ride in a few months (around 20 blocks)?

Uh-oh, here we go again...

I agree with all but the housekeeping thing...that seems to be a "regional" custom that was imported to WDW...

"tip" means gratuity, and is up to the discretion of the giver to choose how much to give....I think 33% is crazy high, but if you can afford it and that is what you want to give, then that is your choice. I would go broke if I tipped 33% to every restaurant/ bar/ spa attendee, I think 15% - 18 % is more of an average range, and if it is a buffet, personally, I would tip closer to 10% as I am doing the work of serving myself on second thought.... ( thinking of that, I
don't even see why I should tip a buffet, actually....no one is serving me!) ... In the end, I have tipped more than the "recommended" 18% for exceptional service, and even not tipped before, if the cruddy service warrented it thankfully not happened at WDW, I usually find that the service there is above average to exceptional).... However, in the end, it is my choice and the customer choice what to leave and that amount is not dictated by any societal expectations/pressure. I am the only person who decides what I will/ will not tip. I am pretty happy at WDW, I find the service there is one place where I don't think are they deserving of a tip? I usually tip with gladness in my heart

I completely agree with you. We ate at a few buffets & I didn't find it necessary to tip 20% in that situation. The majority of the restaurants had amazing service, but there were a few that were just ok. I know that it's Disney World, but I find it a bit ridiculous to think that I should tip higher based solely on that fact.
